Well, it can always be a long term goal, I don't see the prices jumping up at all. I have to admit, I'm not going to "waste" money on little things at ebay so that I can save up for two "nice" purchases this year, a Contax IIA and that Distagon 50mm. I actually sold all my (except for my Canonet) fixed lens RF cameras and a bunch of other stuff to streamline and get to a more workable set of stuff I will actually use. So, that is the rule (which I have to admit I most likely will break at some point) which I am following for 2005.

I hear you! I just sold two more (non-RF) lenses in my continuing effort to cull my collection down to users. My camera fund is now within striking distance of a decent Hassy CM user with an 80mm Planar and a couple of backs.

Definitely keeping the Rollei TLR though.

A late comment to this thread. The only thing that Hasselbalds and Rolleiflex tlr has in commen ar 6x6 format and zeiss glas but even the Zeiss glass does not behave the same. DO NOT SELL YOU ROLLEI TOU WILL REGRET IT - I have had two cameras stolen and I sold one - All thre was great losses - I have now all 3 back in the fold were they belong and in nicer condition 1. Minox B, 2. Rolleiflex tlr with 3,5 tessar and 3. Super Ikonta 533/16 with 2,8 tessar. I will not part with them again ever. So to the Hasselblad issue - the 500CM is as good as the 501 CM on lenses up to 120 mm - above that the 501 CM gliding mirror prevents blacout in the upper part of the viewfinder. It is more safe to buy lenses after the C - that means from CF and newer due the servicabillity ( my favourite lens for my 500 CM is a 120 s-planar C lens not even multicoated) My favourite Hasselblad though is by far my SWC/M with a 38 CF biogon. - That is the best point and shoot camera ever built

Well, here goes:

1. This is my 1000th posting on RFF. Thanks folks for a great forum and thanks, Jorge for founding it!

2. I've been on RFF just a few days over one year. In that time I think I've bought and sold half a gazillion rangefinders ... and enjoyed every minute of it. Addiction loves company 🙂

3. I've purchased a Hassy (AND kept the Rollei). It's on its way to me via UPS and I will have it in my hands early this week. 500CM, 80mm Planar, 120mm Makro Planar, A12, A24 & Polaroid backs. It's my dream camera!

Whew ... I feel like I need a vacation ...

Gene, deserved congratulations on all scores! The Hasselblad is a lovely piece of machinery. I think I could get along nicely with an H1, if only motivation exceeded price.
 
HEy Gene - Congratulations - Remember First Rule of Hasselblad - always cock the shutter before taking of the lens - always!!! or your troubles start - furthermore if you should get tempted to ad extenssion tubes to the camera and that lovely 120 macro planar then first mount the extension tupe - then the lens - and when taking the stuff off first take of the lens and then the extension tubes - other wise you will have jamming problems - before shooting serious - test the lightseals on the filmbacks (the only place on a hasselblad that is known to give you light leak problems - put a film in the back, put it on the camera and take the dark slide of - hold the camera so that you get a hard light on the side were you removed the darkslide - if your light seal is worn out there wille be noticable flare, stray ligts on you film from the side where the darkslide is pulled out. A ligtseal is a foam peace with a stiff plastic around that puts presure on the darkslide and when the darkslide is removed closes the slid so no light comes in the camera - if you need new seals drop me a mail I have an address somewhere to a guy in usa that makes them and sells reasonable prices - I don not know if you got C or CF lenses - remember to use a shade - especially the old lenses were only single coated - by the way when you use the 120 the top of your viewfinder goes a bit dark - it is because the 500 vm does not have a gliding mirror system - you will get used to this and it is really first at 180 or 250 mm that it bothers me - you were right to keep the rolleiflex - TLR, SLR and RF are tree diffenrent coltures/styles mental states and can not be compared and I find my selv using my rolleiflex more then my Hasselblad, but when I use the hasselblad I could not have made the shot with the Rollei If you did not get a manual I have a pdf version somewere - good luck shooting
 
Gene - here is a non macro shot with the 120 macro - some say the lens is bad at infinity- I would say that infinity is so far away I do not mind it being soft

Wow, thanks guys! This one is a big step for me and I appreciate all the tips and encouragement.

Ruben, thanks for all the detailed info (and the fine photo)! I have a pdf of the manual and have been looking at that. I had to chuckle just a bit about cocking the shutter before removing the lens. My Zorki training should come through well! LOL 😛

I'll take it slow with the cam until I get the system sorted out and feel comfortable with adding and removing things. I'll store it alongside the Rollei and let them talk existentialism and stuff for a few days, getting to know one another ...

Congrats. I never regretted buying my 501, playing with the DOF at 2.8 is always fun and a challenge. And the look through the viewfinder makes you think about what some other camera manufacturers might have done in all these years.

Go for it!
 
Gene, I am so regretting I sold my 2000FCW then, but you can't have everything at once (happy mamiya 6 user now)
But just looking through the pictures makes me wish I'd kept her.
I hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed using mine! Have fun!

Just a note of caution for you. I owned a 500C with an 80 f2.8 for a while, really enjoyed using it. A real "back to basics" approach. For months my wife kept telling me the images from the Hassie were the best I'd ever done. Then one day that all changed. We were walking around at a blues festival, I had the Hassie in my hand, and this cute young lady with way too much midriff showing walked by and said "Oooooo a Hasselblad" and started asking me a bunch of questions about it, naturally I told her everything I knew and even made up some stuff. Wasn't long after that the Hassie was on the auction block. That's the last time any young lady complimented me on my equipment.
