Have I missed something?. There seem to be so many threads on this and other forums about the difficulty or otherwise on loading M6's and Leica M's in general. So I was expecting a somewhat tricky operation when I sat down several minutes ago to load my new M6 for the first time. I had the manual open and info. sheets I'd printed off the net with tips and feedback and general advice all at hand. But what's the big deal? Is there anything more straight forward and relatively simple as long as you follow the instructions. And as allways when loading any camera with manual film wind on, the old giveaway, is the rewind knob turning, will be the indicator that the film is correctly loaded. So it's all no big deal afterall.

I understand what you are saying, I felt that way back when I picked-up my M2. But then again, I am not usually in any hurry to load a new film. It can be a little bit of an issue if you have a case to remove, a bottom to hold on to and then there's the spool (but not in your case with the M6). I also have a Bessa R2 which I find a little faster though not as much "fun"

Yes, film loading in an M6 is very very easy, the shutter is quiet, but not silent, black or chrome, you will be noticed bringing either to your eye because it is the camera, not the color that attracts attention.......there are a lot of internet lies.....don't believe anything you read on the internet.

Oh, and I stressed out too about loading the first roll into my M6, damn rumors got me too.

It's easy, Alan. For me, easier than a normal manual open back camera (Bessa, Olympus OM, etc). After a few times you'll be able to do it blind.

Roland.

It is easy and it gets easier for many people. I think there are large differences in the perceptual-motor skills of the population; some people have no problems loading the cam and others find it genuinely difficult (or don't read the instructions 😉 ).

I too was severely dissapointed when I first loaded my M3 ... I expected much more of a fight from it ... but this new M8 has got me totally beat. Add that to the complication of trying to find this new 'magenta' film that everyone's banging on about and I begin to wonder why I bothered?
