I have been looking at a lot of 28's and 35 m42's but I really do want to use them on a 5D because my gf has one and she is interested in playing as am I so it needs to work on the 5D. Period.
I saw a strange lens that I cant find anything about, a Robotar MC 35mm f2
Seems kind of neat if it is of the brand Robot that it seems to be, of course it may just be rebadged something but still cool, pretty cheap too. Hard to tell from the photos if it would work on the 5D though.
I also saw some Pentacon 29 2.8's but they are a bit steep at 80 bucks for a really nice one. One thing I did see that I will get is a Yashinon 50 1.4 DS in like new condition that works on the 5D (something my gf is bugging me about, a manual focus 50 for her 5D)

Contrary to what some others have commented, I have a Soligar 35mm f/2 lens that is outstanding. The serial number is 17506xxx and it is marked on the barrel "35mm C/D", which, I have been told, marks it as one of Soligar's early computer-designed lenses. If you find one, give it a try. It also focuses down to 0.3 meters.

Yeah, im thinking this Soligor might be ok, in reality im just looking for something I can play with, if I go out and do serious shooting I would be taking the hasselblad or some canon L glass or the bessa and its sweet zeiss candy. Price is good, for what people have said I should be able to use it on the gf's 5D but for the most part it will be on my 20D since my gf is not fond of 35mm favoring instead the 50mm's or the ultra wides.
Why the heck not, I returned my Enna lens so I got 850 yuan to kick around, that yashinon 50 and the soligor will leave me with about 100 yuan still so whhhhy not.
One funny thing the guy said about the yashinon though, apparently the little aperture ring pin when released the aperture doesn't always go back to wide open, I dont see how this would be a problem since it would be in when on the adapter and when not on the adapter it wouldn't mater at all. Just funny I guess.

Get a (cheap) 350D (Rebel XT), several adapters and start to buy manual lenses!
I use M42-, Nikkor-, C/Y-, Tamron A2-, PK- and even a Rollei lens at my Canon.
(I also use these lenses at film cams, though.)
You can't use M39 LTM lenses at an DSLR, unless you want to shoot close-ups. The register difference does not fit.
A Rollei Planar 1.8/50 at a Canon EOS600.............and a Nikkor-H 1.8/85 at the same cam.
M and Av modes work perfectly at my EOS 350D.

Some news!
I have adapted a Leica Elmarit-R 2.8/35 to my EOS 350D. Wow! Excellent results!
This is the lens at my Canon EF-M (nice cam, BTW).

There are some interesting Soligor badged lenses - I've got a couple of M42 mount Soligor 135mm F2's and they're impressive looking beasts and quite decent performers:
