I had no idea that the Library of Congress had the money to do this extraordinary work. These Civil War photos are amazing! And they give you high-res downloading options! And they are in 3-D (if you had the software and glasses)!

FYI - everything in the Library of Congress is in the public domain. One can order copies of photographs that are in the collection. You should check out the FSA photos. Fantastic!

I've read "American Pictures" by Jacob Holdt -- a truly sublime and bizarre book. A record of his travels around America, with some astounding pictures. Look for it; his adventures, stories of sleeping with and photographing all kinds of freaky people.
