Yes it looks cool (not as cool as the real thing) and yes it has an EVF. But I have everything running smooth on my lowly NEX 3. What else would I gain? Yes the EVF would be nice for me about 5% of the time. The buttons and such would be nice, but overhyped as to its need. Don't need 24 megs. What else GAS lovers?

The OLED viewfinder is the biggest issue for me- I am primarily buying the 7 for this reason, because the LCD is useless for focusing in bright light. I am also looking forward to the two top mounted dials because it would make manual changing of shutter speeds and aperture easier than the system on the NEX 5 or 3.

I don't really need the 24 megs either.

I usually use manual lenses, with aperture preferred. So I have the aperture ring on the lens and the shutter speed adjust automatically. Yes the EVF would be great but only now and then. BTW my trick for dealing with extreme sunshine is to shoot B & W in RAW with yellow focus peaking. Works pretty well.
(It's all a kluge compared to a Leica M3 or a Nikon F, IMHO)

Well, all of the good stuff about the Nex-7 you don't need... perhaps the order should be cancelled until you see it in person.

By the time you get the appropriate Zeiss lens you have a >$2000K pocket (lint) cam... seems silly.

Wait for it to settle out and try a used $600 one next year. If you can restrain yourself and let every new product get at least a year old before you try it, you'll be a lot saner and you won't lose on the most rapid depreciation. Plus the bug fixes will have been made, or at least the shortcomings will have been widely broadcast.

The endless wait for the X100 left a sour taste in mouth... well so did Mac OS7 back in 1993. Early adopters pay extra to be beta-testers. Better to be a nihilist and say "#@$&-it".

but i want it NOOOOWWWWWW

yeah, i'm worried about bugs and stuff, but i imagine that the NEX 3/5 worked most of those out.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I've pre-ordered both the 7 and 5N. If I like the 5N and nex in general, I will either keep it and cancel the 7 order, or sell it when the 7 ships. If I don't like the system at all, I'll return the 5N and cancel the 7.

You might just be better off with a 5N. Better sensor, improved corners, not $1200. And you can add a nice EVF if you later decide you need one.

I like the nex-7 for the built in evf, and I'm optimistic, but really I'll wait until it's relatively easily available and I can try one out before buying it. Frank's advice is probably the best, though I don't expect I'll wait more than a couple months if I like it. But I have no need to pre-order now...

"not as cool as the real thing"
What IS the "real thing?" A Leica? To me, the NEX 7 is better than an M8/9. Better spec'd sensor, AF, more versatile lens mount, better controls, and a video section that will potentially outperform the 5D2, which is the industry standard for dSLR video. And, it's smaller and a jillion times cheaper. If by "cool" you mean 'pretty,' sure. Okay. But, heck- in the 80s and 90s, most of the pages of Vogue were filled with ugly camera pictures. The Pentax 67.... I can deal with not having an elitist piece of jewelry when the tool performs.

"because the LCD is useless for focusing in bright light"
From what i'm reading, the newer generation of NEX is much better in that regard. Someone who just reviewed the 5N or C3 or whatever said he had no trouble in bright sunlight.

"By the time you get the appropriate Zeiss lens you have a >$2000K pocket (lint) cam... seems silly."
If it had a red dot on it, it would be 5x that price. We're talking about a TINY camera with a fully spec'd video component, a significant jump in resolution versus a $9,000 camera, and you can use almost any lens on it, from the newest dedicated AF glass, to classic/vintage uncoated stuff. With innovations like Focus Peaking that let you actually focus the manual stuff accurately, efficiently, and quickly. When was the last time Leica sold something (body and lens!) for under $2,000?

Whatever 'bugs' will be worked out in firmware, WHILE you're still shooting with it.

Have y'all seen the Zeiss 24 sample shots? Creamy Sonnar goodness.

I was very concerned about the size of this lens. It's likely the only one i'll buy, and i'll use my Jupiter-3 on it.... The lens itself, in all the product photographs and renderings, looks huge. But, when you see it in a real-world context, on the camera, where you can judge the actual scale... the whole package is still pretty small. It's never going to be Contax T3 small, unfortunately. But, it's still quite tiny. The NEX 7 body is barely bigger than my Olympus Stylus Epic.

If you add the EVF you're getting up there in price (still $400-350 less than the 7 I think) and you have to carry around and use a bulky add-on EVF.

Although I need to be more budget-minded, I think if you are going to want/use an EVF you might as well buy the 7. Having it built in along with the 7's additional features is well worth the $400 or so premium. But that's me.

I'm not sure why people are so concerned with "bugs". As CK mentions they get sorted out. Why wait?

24mp seems silly in this camera. That and lens performance are the only two things that would make me wait to read a couple reviews.

I had a NEX 5, but found the lack of EVF a deal breaker, it's not just the bright sunlight, a VF eliminates distractions when framing, and it's so much nicer holding the camera to my face rather than at arms length.

This does sound like GAS gone mad though, having second thoughts? It's not even been released yet! Reminds me of the X100 madness, the excitement is swiftly followed by a lot of X100s in the classifieds...

What happens to all those cameras you guys will return? Will they re-sell them as refurbished models at cheaper price? If yes - keep ordering more!!!

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I've pre-ordered both the 7 and 5N. If I like the 5N and nex in general, I will either keep it and cancel the 7 order, or sell it when the 7 ships. If I don't like the system at all, I'll return the 5N and cancel the 7.

Dude, you need to find a 12 step program.

I'm fine with my NEX 3. I wouldn't buy a 5N, since if I used a viewfinder it would be an integrated one.

I like the NEX 7 concept, but I'm going to wait until the prices go down a bit. I'm not in a hurrry. It's not like I can't go out and take pictures with my NEX 3...

Leica 9 is sweet I know, but... I can't use my rokkors on it ;D

I am also having second thought, but in the other direction.
First I thought, unnecessary and too expensive.
But now that I have seen one in action (well, on video)... Wow! Sexy cam!
I wanna have one! ;)

Second thoughts for buying a new s/w expensive camera?
Ya, thats usually the case for me. And on the odd purchase where I dont
have a second thought on buying it (Oly EP first version), then I usually
return it due to lacklustre performance.
I ordered the Nex 7 with my refundable $100. This is the "best in its class" for sure,
but is it good enough to replace a dRF? For me, the manual focus mechanism will make it or break it. Thats the one MAJOR thing these cams lack compared to a dRF, IMHO.
