Avoid any package service other than Priority. And expect Priority to be a day or two late.
I received a Priority Mail box yesterday that was shipped last Thursday. East coast to west. However, I wasn’t able to track it even though I had the right number.

The entire "profit" argument is a red herring anyway. No other federal government agency is expecteded to make a profit. There's no rational basis, other than so-called conservatives' decades-long push to privatize everything (and thereby enrich themselves), to think the USPS would be profitable. How much profit does DOD earn? DHS? Zero, exactly the amount USPS ought earn.
For a long time those same "conservatives" have proclaimed "government should be run like a business." That's a load of BS. Businesses are operated for one and only one reason, namely, to make money for their owners. Government is established to serve the people, and for no other reason.
Absolutely.

First class tracked mail travels with priority. Pre-COVID, it was common for me to ship first class items for $3 on a Friday and they would arrive cross-country on a Monday (the equivalent of an overnight Fedex which would have cost $50 or so.)
Very interesting, as priority mail travels on Fedex planes.

Having troubles with USPS? Yes for the last 45 years.

Ever since the first class postage jumped from 10 to 13 cents.

Not all businesses..are greedy that way..or they would all be making hamburgers and fries..That's a load of BS. Businesses are operated for one and only one reason, namely, to make money for their owners.
Mom & pops.. exist to serve the community..as well as pay the owners bills..a balance there..
Most of these smaller businesses..are a 24/7 workaholic load...for the owners..
You never can rest from it..
I know..I've been at it for 26 years now..and still put in 14 to 18 hour work days..at 64 years of age..
Someone who has never owned their own business..will never understand this..
As far as usps is concerned..
My wife told me today..that Maine has an 80K backload of mail items to deliver..
There is no overtime to catch up w/it anymore..
Workers are told when the clock strikes 5..go home..who cares about delivery...just let it sit..
Thats the new CEO for ya..
A total idiot..

Unless the owners are independently wealthy and operating them as a hobby, all businesses' reason for existence is to make money. Failing that, they cease to exist.

Either I live in a part of Brooklyn that is served by this same post office or the situation is much much worse than I imagined. But it's also true that my own online purchasing has increased since COVID-19 hit, and especially for smaller household items that I'd usually get from local stores.I live in NYC - Brooklyn to be exact - and there are quite a lot of post offices in Brooklyn. Some are doing a better job than others. The one in my neighborhood is really, really terrible and the increased volume of packages due to COVID-19 has only made it worse. While most of my mail makes it here eventually I have had more issues in the last couple of months than I have had in the last 10 years.

I could tell you 10 Fed Ex stories for every USPS delay. Every Fed EX is serious.
My solution is to ship UPS to local distribution center for will call.
I watch tracking and pick up as soon as I dress in AM. Never lost a thing

I suspect it's much worse than you imagined. Everyone is ordering more online than ever before because of COVID and the USPS, which was already struggling, responds by eliminating overtime so there's no chance at all that any package will arrive on time.
I live in Midwood for the past ten years but I've lived in other Brooklyn neighborhoods. Mail delivery in Brooklyn has never been great but Midwood is really a whole new ballgame of bad. I get it: their workload increased a lot and their budget is being slashed and, yes, it's completely demoralizing but these folks aren't even trying.
I'm still waiting on a first class package that was mailed last month.

Louis DeJoy is a GOP top donor https://www.npr.org/2020/05/07/851976464/new-postmaster-general-is-top-gop-fundraiser. He has stocks in Fedex and UPS so this is another case of capitalist cannibalism and political tactics.
