Australia/New Zealand HCB in Brisbane

I'm sure anyone in Brisbane is aware that the Cartier-Bresson collection is on at the Art Galley until mid November, but just in case I will remind y'all.

I came away with the distinct impression that big pictures look much batter than little ones. (like mine)

They can also look an awful lot worse! I guess it needs a great image that 'wants' to be big.

I saw plenty of very large photos at Arles that would have been better the size of postage stamps. Better still, the size of a pin head. However, I do love large prints when the material and quality suit such an approach (along with the display space). There's little sillier than huge prints in a tiny venue where you can only view them from 3 feet away!

This is an excellent opportunity for you folks to see the legendary work! The exhibition was in Atlanta this April and we had a huge turnout of RFF'ers and my wife loved it as well!

Do not miss this one!😉

since moving to Brisbane/living in Australia it seems like everything is always somewhere else and never in Brisbane (or in Brisbane last). for the first time ever i'm glad i'm not living in Sydney or Melbourne. 😛

Why did they choose Brisbane and not Sydney or Melbourne? Both have larger populations than Brisbane, and I think Sydney or Melbourn citizens would be more of the arty farty type

Interestingly that's one really big change in Brisbane in the time I've lived here. The arts are very well supported these days.

Plane fllights are cheap and to see HCB's work incuding an air fare would probably cost less than seeing a front line musical act these days ... people were happily handing over $500.00 for a couple of tickets to see ACDC here recently.

I'm only going to be in Brisbane for the day and sadly I have never been to Brisbane before. Which precinct would be best for street photography? I was thinking around Fortitude Valley, South bank and Queen Street mall. Does this sound about right?

....can't wait to see those HCB prints!!!

Sorry if this is terribily off-topic, but didn't know where else to post it...

So, last weekend I was visiting the Moderna Muséet in Stockholm, Sweden and to my surprise they had a few HCB and Capa (to name a few) prints hanging on the walls.

The thing I was wondering is, are these some sort of "original" prints in that they travel around the world, or do the museums have a chance to buy their own copies and have them on the walls or in the warehouse whenever they want? The name tags had no mention of a collection as they do sometimes.

"Original" or not it was anyway very nice to see some real gelativ silver prints of these images that I've only admired online before, especially as I had no idea they were on display now.

I was planning to go today, but I've been held up with other commitments. I've never been to Brisbane either, and I would be interested in your travel itinerary--especially in regards to street shooting.

I was in Brisbane two weeks ago on my way through to far north Queensland for a holiday having stopped over to see my mum. Needless to say I made a poiint of stopping by the gallery to view the HCB exhibition. It was great. I actually enjoyed some of his less well known images best of all. Set me thinking about why some images become icons and others bo not. I believe he personally chose the photos for this retrospective fo his work before he passed away.
