A new exhibit of Henri Cartier-Bresson 's work in Paris has garnered a lot of attention in the French media

Among the extensive press coverage , the newspaper Libération has published a slideshow of photographs of HCB by known photographers

As a game and a challenge I am hoping RFF members can help identify the various cameras, lens and viewfinders featured in these shots

There are 19 images in the slideshow and the following feature cameras:

01 (1935, in New York)
02 (1956) (this one is impossible)
03 (1957 - Washington DC, with MLK)
04 (1959, featuring Elliott Erwitt holding a camera)
05 (1960, with Hollywod actor Eli Wallach)
07 (1961, at Magnum in NY. Note the black tape.)
10 (1971. With Martine Frank , by Josef Koudelka, 2 cameras to identify)
11 (1971, in Italy, by Martine Frank)
12 (1976. In train, by Martine Frank)

I'm no good on the screwmounts, but I'll give it a go.

As far as M bodies go, it looks like he's almost always got an M3, and the viewfinder is a universal VIOOH (I've seen other pictures where he's using an M6, CL, and even a Leica Mini, I think--just none of these).

In 3, I think he's got a 50mm Summarit 1.5 (it doesn't look like a V1 Summilux); I guess it could also be a Leitz Xenon 50 1.5 (looks similar to the Summarit).

In 4, Erwitt's got an M3--you can tell by the goggled 35mm lens. Could be a Summicron V1 or a Summilux V1--hard to tell, but if I had to guess, I'd say the latter.

In 5, Black M3, can't tell what lens, and I have no idea what Eli Wallach is using.

In 6 & 7, Black M3, and a collapsible Summicron 50.

In 10, like I said, I don't know screwmounts, but Franke has an M3, and I would assume a 50 Cron (I know she generally carried 2 cameras--one with a 35mm and the other with a 50mm)

In 11, looks like an M3 and collapsible cron, but it's somewhat hard to tell.

In 12, no idea, too dark.

Oh, and in 2. Yea it's hard to see, but the silver hood kind of gives it away. Looks the same as this picture:

And that looks like either a 50 Summarit or 50 Xenon.

Isn't the MLK photo in Washington DC at number 3 suppose to be in August 1963 and not in 1957 ?

- The MLK pic is from the "Pilgrimage for Freedom", 17 May 1957 . It was shot by fellow Magnum photog Bob Henriques

- Martine Franck (b. 1938) died in 2012 . She was 30 years younger than HCB (b. 1908)

I did not know Martine Frank is dead. It is a socking news for me . I met her during one of her exhibition in Paris. And I have a book autographed and dedicated during the exhibition. Great loss.
