According to the description on book depository; "This new publication is a meticulous facsimile of the original book."

Also that "It comes with an additional booklet containing an essay on the history of "The Decisive Moment" by Centre Pompidou curator Clement Cheroux."

Book depository still lest the date as Nov 24, I hope they're right.

Cancelled my Amazon.com order and ordered from The Book Depository. TBD has been much better at getting books like this out compared to Amazon, which is kind of amusing since Amazon owns them... !

Received mine, not too impressed to be honest. The format is huge, which I see no reason for. In my opinion, the print quality (or images) really didn't need a large format book.
 
Cancelled my Amazon pre-order last week as well, ordered it from a German retailer. Should be here in the next few days.

Isn't the new "re-print" a facsimile edition? I haven't seen the original book but I assume the new Steidl book is the same size.

What is the print quality like? The original has a reputation for the quality of its print reproduction and the new one aims to replicate that as far as possible. I understand Steidl scanned a mint copy of the original book from the HCB Foundation and it intrigues me how successful an approach that can be (bearing in mind the generational loss involved in any process like this). It strikes me as being a bit like reissuing a classic vinyl album by recording a copy of the actual original pressed album rather than going back to the master tapes.

Blimey! You are totally right :bang::eek: Apologies to all! I have never seen the original, and always thought that it was smaller.

As for the print quality, it is hard to say how it keeps up with an original that I haven't seen, but it looks and feels very different (older) than modern books. I'm sure this has a lot to do with technical advances the last sixty years. I find that there is a "scanned photo" feeling, as opposed to "scanned negative". Naturally, it makes perfect sense if they scanned a copy of the book.
 
I just placed an order with TBD as well. Even shipping it from Europe, it will surely get here before the end of February. I suppose I will also be canceling my Amazon preorder.
