HDR: An Assault Upon the Senses

HDR = Marmite.

You either love it or hate it....and hate on things or people that don't care affects no-one but yourself.....

When its done well it can be good, like selective colouring....it's popular..... Affecionadoes in most pursuits often shun and denegrate the fashion, it's part of what defines their relationship to their hobby or pursuit.

I'd say,like most fads, it'll pass......oh hang on 3DHDR anyone 🙂

Marmite has been around for a while too.....

Neither, really. In both cases. If I never saw Marmite again, I'd not miss it. If someone gave me a jar tomorrow, I'd eat it. Eventually.

HDR? Sooner or later I'll try it -- I have a couple of ideas where I think it might work -- so I don't hate it. But I don't think it's the be-all and end-all either.

As far as I am concerned, HDR is a bit like the X100, except that I'm not quite so keen to get around to it.

Cheers,

R.

Dear Damien,

You don't like hand coloring? Never mind tar and feathers -- it's Marshalls Transparent Photo Oils and feathers for you, m'boy.

Cheers,

R.

Actually, I have seen some great hand-coloured work from the first half of the 20th century, it's more the selective colouring of b&w converted digital images I usually find offensive 🙂

but there are exceptions. for example, when you want to impress a friend with your "photography" skills, you simply apply the hdr effect, and they'll be singing your praise, no matter how the photo was exposed, framed, composed, or anything else. as long as its hdr, the people shall sing!

tbh, when i first started in photography, i did a lot of hdr, because i thought the 'look' was different and unique. but then i saw everyone else had already been doing it, and realized i was part of the problem 😱

Overtime, i just became sick of hdr. very rarely will an hdr image be memorabe in anyway. but i have seen some that are exceptional, but its rare.

Oh how I like to ask this: now what is HDR. Have no faintest idea, and I´m proud of it.

Ignorance is bliss. I think you proved the point.

But there is a simple answer. Do away with flickr then no one will be forced to look at what they don't want to look at. Of course they could also exercise some self control so they aren't forced to bleat about it. I suppose that would be asking too much.

My Liege,

Might I request a boon. Amnesty for those of us who pursue Photoshop in the making of seamless digital collages from our own photographs. You can see by my web fiefdom that I never abandoned thee in all, as it is equally festooned with traditional B&W... much of it film... none of it HDR.

Your humble servant,
Charles, esquire.

Charlie, my loyal subject,
We (the royal variety, of course) might be able to make an exception for thee provided you continue your allegiance and obeisance to both myself and to that most holy of mediums, B&W film.
Thus spake King Nick
