HDR is a post processing technique, really. It shouldn't be camera dependent.

HDR is very simple
take images at 3 or 5 different different exposures, usually
-2 0 2
or
-2 -1 0 1 2
then use photomatix or any other HDR software to "blend" the pictures together, thus increasing the dynamic range
so every single digital camera with exposure compensation (include current point and shoot) can do HDR

Being the German camera that it is, I'm sure it would even take images with a lens. Or without! Some people have been successful at doing pinhole photography with Leicas.

If it has EV bracketing, that would certainly help. Push the button once and the camera takes a series of bracketed exposures for you. Most semi-pro/pro DSLRs have this, and a few even have HDR processing on board.

The M9 will do it easier than the M8 because it has bracketing. This is HDR done with the M8.

I have been a user of the M8 and now the M9 and I am really enjoying the auto bracketing feature of the M9. It allows me to take 3 or more images and then combine them in Photomatix Pro. As I can hand hold the M9 to 1/15s I can easily get hand held HDR images after blending the various exposures.

Congrats for having an M9. I have a hard time getting a perfect match in Photomatix with hand-held shots. Maybe because, with the M8, I have to twiddle the speed dial between exposure.
