Well, if somebody saw that title, and then was disappointed when the content didn't literally show how to shoot like RF, that is, how to make art of equal caliber, I would be inclined to think that that somebody was a little naive.

The danish cookie did a great job by showing a lot of Robert Frank photos in his video. He popularized Robert Frank. The rest is not important.
Would it be called as dross or funky fan.

Perhaps... but do you really think we all thought it would deliver? We knew it wouldn't. Fan videos never do... I would imagine the video was presented here because it didn't deliver. I mean the title of the thread showed me that.

Which is why I never watch this crap unless it is specifically pointed out to me. It was presented in this thread to critique. I guess I prefer content that respects the work that it is name dropping. Instead we get a guy who uses the work of famous photographers to gain followers. If you are entertained by it, that's cool. I'm not. I'm getting old though... 😉

I like the technique Frederik Trovatten uses in his attempt to emulate the photographers he admires.

I have tried to take portraits like Yosef Karsh; candids like Linda McCartney; and landscapes like Laurence Parent. I probably would have been more successful had I used Trovatten's approach.

However, I find his YouTube video title misleading. His title "How To Take Photos Like Robert Frank" should have been, "How I Tried to Take Photos Like Robert Frank."

I like the approach of studying great photographers and trying to emulate their style, as a form of exercise. It is a very useful process in many art forms, until one develops a style of their own.

Either from imbedded ads, or increasingly often, from product pitches made right to the camera ("This video was sponsored by Squarespace! For all your webhosting needs, use Squarespace!"). So a misleading title just to gain views seems a bit disingenuous if the video doesn't live up to the title.

I don't care about yes/no rate, but it is very different and more difficult approach from usual candid technique.
Not I really like street portraits if posed after asking, but it is very cool approach.

Make the meme then... despite what I think about this guy using Robert Frank's photography and name to make money from his YouTube channel (48.1K followers), I do have a sense of humor. I'd love to see it.
