I’ve gone round and round about what camera to take. Film or digital. An M camera, SLR, or mirrorless. Ultimately I decided the easiest thing was just take the Q for street shots in Buenos Aires and snaps at the ranch we are staying at for a few days. There’s a camera store I want to visit while I’m in the city there so I’ll likely end up with another film camera to use as well.

I would love to take photographs in Buenos Aires with my M9 or Monochrom, but I suspect high contrast and an older lens might be the go. My 28 2.8 ASPH is very high contrast. I imagine the Q’s have pretty contrasty lenses. Fuji color negative like Superia copes well with one stop under exposure as well as two stops over. But I’d be using FP4 plus.

Unlikely I’ll ever get to South America now. So I look forward to seeing your pictures. Have a great trip. I’m now going to re-watch Hitchcock’s Notorious, set in Rio. Beautiful light in that film, only some of it filmed in Rio.

BA is a fabulous town. I always thought it bore a great resemblance to San Francisco. In about 1966 I bought a Nikon S there in a little photo shop in a downtown subway stop. That camera made some of my favorite pictures. Here is one made in one of the restaurants along the Costanera road.
