I'm heading to San Francisco next week on business. I should have at least a few free hours and am wondering what any of you might recommend? I'd like to do a little street photography, but also I'd just like to experience the city a bit. I'm not really familiar with it at all so any suggestions are welcome!

San Francisco is one of the best cities in the US and a photographers dream, in my opinion. You have moody weather, wonderful architecture, and incredibly colorful people which makes for great street photography. If I had only a few hours, I would make a beeline for City Lights bookstore, head to North Beach, wander around there, and then walk down to the wharf. There are plenty of other good options, but when I am there and have limited time, that's what I do.

+1 to Damaso comment, unless the exhibition will visit your home town, in that case walk around market street from powel to embarcadero, also chinatown is a good place for street photography.
Other option is to take the cable car from powel to fisherman's wharf. That will give a small idea of the city if you just have a couple of hours.
Enjoy your visit.

Plenty of things to do here Patrick. Heck just walk around.
I'd recommend Pier 24 if you want to look at some photographs - it's free but you need to RSVP. It's a wonderful space. They have an excellent portrait exhibit right now. Another recommendation (it's a must see in my book) is the Gordon Parks exhibit at Jenkins Johnson Gallery.

Starting out at Union Square, just walk up to and into Chinatown. Or maybe Nob Hill with Grace Cathedral and the Fairmont, etc. Or down to the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero and environs. Don't waste "a few hours" in San Francisco walking around in a museum looking at pictures of some other city. Walk around San Francisco and make your own exhibit and post it here.
