Head's up: great deal on Fuji G690 at Green Mountain Camera

I was at Green Mountain Camera in Waterbury, VT this weekend, and they had just gotten a Fuji G690 with 100mm f/3.5 lens. The camera and body were both in really excellent shape. The best I have ever seen. The owner was saying that he had priced it at 500 something dollars for the lens and the body. I told him that was a really great price and that he should charge more (sorry). I know that I sold mine, which was in beater condition for 700 or so. Anyway, the lens sounded like the 1 second was properly timed, and the finder was fairly clear and bright. Cosmetically it was in superb shape. If someone is after a G690 at a good price, this is it (unless he jacked up the price after my visit). I would have bought it myself, but I just bought a Rollei 6008AF about a month ago and all other medium format cameras are a lot less interesting to me now.

Caveat -- I did not go over the camera with a fine-toothed comb, so there may still be problems with it, but since this is a dealer you should be able to get some guarantee out of it. From my cursory examination however, this looks like the best one I have seen.

Green Mountain Camera is www.gmcamera.com, but they don't have the camera on their website yet. If you do buy it, feel free to let him know that the guy who was by on Sunday (Stuart) pointed you to the camera. Maybe he will give me a deal if I like something there in the future....

It's been better in past years, but it is still lovely. Here is a Rollei shot on XP2...I have color stuff, but I don't think I have uploaded it yet:

Nice of you to tell him to charge more...

I think everyone deserves a fair deal...dealer or buyer. If he is selling something way under market value, he should know it. Likewise, if he is gouging, I'd consider telling him that too...

There always is that Time-Value-of-Money thing that pops up. While he might be under pricing it, I would bet it is covering his costs, but a bit. I agree, you should tell him your thoughts. If he wants to increase the price a bit we have the knowledge to offer him the original price and if he says no, he might just sit with it for another month or fifteen. Fifteen months out he might have to drop the price in half of the initial price to get it to move.

While he migth be able to make a bit more, my guess is that there is not a lot of traffic for used MF cameras in VT these days, or any where for that matter. It's a depressed market from what I can see. $500 in the hand buys a lot more food that $750 sitting behind the glass at the store.

I think you are right Bill. Anyway, either way, I told him that I thought it was a really good price and the lowest I had seen for the camera in that condition. So that's that. He does sell on the internet and ebay as well, so I think that his market is broader than just Vermont. All I wanted to do was give a head's up that if you are looking for a G690, this is a great place to get one for a good price.
