I just bought a item from an FSU seller. He is shipping "Economy" and predicting about two months delivery time. Is this related to the new airmail restrictions?

Folks, I was just at the local post office and was informed that as of today, the situation is back to normal i.e. no more weight restrictions for packages going to America via Japan Post.

I found that out just after I dropped by the local Kuroneko center and sent a camera to the USA. BTW Kuroneko did require a social security number even though it wasn't a commercial item I was sending.

The issue is that passenger aircraft have been used to haul mail and cargo items around. They want to limit this because no one wants to have a finger pointed at them the next time a terrorist is successful in mailing a bomb and having it blown up on the passenger aircraft which it was transported on. Either way this rule is stupid.

I'm glad they finally lifted the restriction, but the notice states that delivery times will be longer than normal.

I have shipped more items by Kuroneko this week, and I still have not been asked for an SSN number. I wonder about the logic behind this, I used to be a police officer in America, and a person's identity cannot be quickly checked or verified using an SSN number.

Looks that the rules still in place.
Send a A3 size package with prints from Portugal to US via EMS (normally 4 business days) and it's stuck in Germany (move by truck) where everything goes now to be scanned/checked.
After complain to the EMS services they requested phone numbers and emails (!) from both sender and receiver.... after 16 days the package didn't move.. and that cost 62€!

Yes, back to normal… well, the normal craziness of pre-xmas I suppose.

By the way, none of this affected regular "reputable sellers" who have an account with Japan Post, which then gets prioritized as the ID of origin is verified. Best to stick with those sellers, if you know where to find them 😉
