Version 1.176

"Firmware v1.176 addresses what the company says is a rare fault that can occur when formatting some SanDisk memory cards. It says it has tested 'all types' of SanDisk card and that the latest firmware guarantees their proper function."

Not an M9 owner, but this should make some of you happy.

Ah, what the f@*k!!, what's wrong with these people? Just upgraded and the stupid thing still won't accept my SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC1 card. How is this even possible?

AAAAARRRGGGGHHH!!!

Oooops!

Just tried it again with my other card of the same kind and now it works. Must be something wrong with the card instead...

I humbly apologize for my little outburst there. What I meant was: "Great job, Leica, you're the best!! :)"

I'm still worried about installing the new firmware, thank God my M9-P is not exhibiting any problems. So I'll probably stick to the factory firmware for now...

Great... upgraded the firmware, went to a concert to shoot a bit.. at home plopped the card in a cardreader... *nothing happened*.
No card visible in the finder, Lightroom didn't see anything either... put the card back in the camera and now that doesn't work anymore either (nothing happens when I want to review my images, just a black screen.. tried this both on a Mac and a PC.. same thing).
I'm pissed off now, I took some pretty decent shots last night and there's no way to get them off this card now. I'm >this< close to crushing this thing with a hammer, or better yet, my M9.

edit: card is a Sandisk 8Gb Extreme Pro SDH-I 45Mb/s

I'm on my third Sandisk UhA-1 8GByte card. Another direct from Sandisk.

I never used them in my M9, they died in my computer with the latest Sandisk Imagemate card reader. I was at an electronics store which sells them, and the salesman let me know that lots of people were having problems with them and he steered customers away from them.

The Sandisk UHS-1 cards are pure crap. Avoid them.

I have two 16GB sandisk extreme class10 and they both stopped to work with this new firmware... :bang:

the camera says "no card"

one of them was used to make the firmware upgrade, so they worked with the 1.174

EDIT: ok, it seems you only have to re-format the cardes and everything works :p

I'm still on the original firmware didn't bother upgrading the last times so unless something goes wrong I'm not doing it this time. What I don't understand is with all the problems with sandisk and the M9 why are people still using sandisk cards?

I had one of two SanDisk Extreme Pro 8gb card fail a few weeks ago. Pitched them both in a fit of frustration but mostly caution, now using other non-SanDisk cards. All's well.

Uh-Oh, just loaded one in my 2-day old M9-P. It formatted OK and the images were recorded OK. But I haven't bought a reader yet. What reader is recommended?

No autofocus yet?! Somebody's Nikon D3 can do this, and the M9 can't?! Oh, how my unreasonable expectations have not been met!!

good news! the teacher on my recent photography course w/excursion offered to try and find my lost files, and was successful. if he has interesting details/tricks, i'll add them here later.

I had a failure such as described above & had to pay $175 to the tech company that SanDisk recommends to retrieve their screwed-up stuff. They did succeed in retrieving the files.

I'm using the new firmware & haven't had time to find out if there's a problem with the SanDisk cards yet.

For those who seem querulous about updating firmware, go right ahead – Leica has been putting out new firmware updates ever since M8, & there's nothing dangerous about installing them.
