That's a good price. I didn't see any K100D supers for sale for less than $550 or so, so I figured I'd give the Samsung a shot. I'll use it for a year, and if I don't like it I can always give it to someone who has some K mount lenses.
I'm not done, as I'll still need a longer lens for the digital, and I'm looking for a Canon P. Then I'll be done for a while. Unless I hit the lottery.

Checked today and the price is back to 'normal' - $529 or so. Hopefully some people got in on the 'deal' 🙂

I did get one, and this past weekend I took about 180 shots or so. It does great in sunlight, but in shadows and overcast days, it will need some tweaking to get decent results.
Well worth the price though, as it's MUCH better than my P&S digital, even with less megapixels.

I have an *ist DS and bought the cheap focus screen on eBay. Works a treat. Yes, the focus was off at first - I had it in upside down. Flipped it over, then it was fine. Focus is fine, metering is fine - all the things people who never tried told me would be wrong with it were not. I'm trying to recall how many times I've flipped over the 10K frame count now - I'm either at 50K or 60K shutter actuations on this camera. Works a treat. Oh, I also use the rechargeable CR-V3 batteries I'm told not to use - no problem. I get about 800 shots from one set of two.
My best manual focus zoom lens is a Sears (made in Korea) 70-200 f/4 KA mount lens that I got for like $5. And I'm highly critical of image quality. Nobody wants to hear that - I guess spending a pile is required to take good photos. Whatever, says I. Great camera, cheap lenses, cheap accessories. Hell, I clean the sensor with a q-tip.

I have the K100D Super, and previously had the *ist DL. I'd go with either, the SR and sensor cleaner on the Super are nice, but the photo quality from both are excellent.
A good < f2 prime can be found inexpensively, and quite fast to focus with the focus indicators on the newer models, not even sure if I'll need a split screen or katseye so far.
ISO 3200 is great, still a bit slow with the kit lens, but RF fast with a nice prime!

The US rebate ends 1/31 for the K10D and K100D Super, not sure if it's been extended or not.
Now that the newer models are out, the K10Ds and K100Ds (and Super) might be all gone to clearance or outlets.
But in reading the Japanese interview with the K10D designers, they clearly went through a lot of compromises getting 10MP on the APS-C sensor with smaller sensors vs the larger sensors on the 6MP, so until larger or FF comes out through Pentax, I'm very happy with 6MP and large micro sensors.
Now that the newer models are out, the K10Ds and K100Ds (and Super) might be all gone to clearance or outlets.

So I finally went out yesterday and bought my Christmas present from my wife. The last K10D at a camera store near home.
Spent last night playing with it. For someone who has resisted digital for the most part, I really like it. First project - test my old Pentax lenses on it.

I am sure you'll like it. I bought my *ist DS originally as body-only, but later decided to pick up the kit lens for it, and I've added a few other third-party AF lenses over the years. I like them. But I still get a kick out of screwing an inexpensive K-mount or M42 or T-mount lens onto it and getting excellent photos.
One word of caution - some lenses made for both Pentax and Ricoh or made only for Ricoh lenses that have a "P" for program setting as well as or instead of an "A" for automatic aperture setting have an additional pin sticking out of the mount that can get stuck on the Pentax body. This can be resolved by removing the pin prior to mounting the lens on the camera - but if you force the lens on and it stuck, you have a problem.

I have been lucky so far - the rear lens mount is usually just a ring held on with three phillips-head screws. Remove those, lift the rim off, the pin comes right out - spring loaded. Then replace the rim and the screws. The pin is only needed on Ricoh programmable cameras, not Pentaxes at all.
