Obviously, Carl Zeiss wants everybody to remember their new Zeiss Ikon baby and are beating the large drum. Just read:

That silly thing looks like a planet-gobbling star ship! If they want to promote themselves, they should just give away some cameras!
it took a while for me to realize that little black thing was a Hasseblad.

Don't know about the translation on the Zeiss site, but the german article indicates that they where contracted to build this lens.

This thing would make a pretty decent telescope if it works well at infinity - the aperture is 17 inches!

My M5s need red dots!
Looks most ungorgeous... And good that I read some comments before looking at it. I don't think I would have "seen" the Hassy.

a very hefty lens
a very hefty lens
a guy at a local monthly electronics flea market was selling 3 of these for $20 each last Sat. Not sure if it's an Imax lens or not, but something similar probably. I would have bought one, but they were too heavy, felt like 40 lbs. or so.

I'm not good with numbers, but isn't it true that instead of buying this thing, you could just walk 2/3 of the way to the target and then use a Nikon zoom?
