Hello friends!

As I haven't developed a general understanding of the Leica lens line-up (it'll probably take me a year or so as it did with the Nikkors) I need to throw out a few basic questions.

As an enthusiast I love finding the oldies-but-goodies.
I'm looking into a 135mm (and indeed a 90mm if I find one).
Right now there's one for sale, a 135mm 4.5 Hektor.

what does these numbers tell you? I've read some and normally the Hektor is 4.0. Is that correct?
Do you have some thought about this lens and the 135's in general?

Side-note (!): Leica S2!! Leica actually on top again. Frontrunner, visionary, pioneer! Nice to see. Let's hope (for the future of Leica as a serious player in the pro market) it lives up to it's specs.

I don't pay much attention to genus and species of lenses, but I do have one of these. I like it for its 'different' look with both color and B&W. It is sharp enough, and has a 39mm barrel so my A39 filters fit. Here is one:

I have one, I like it a lot. It has great bokeh and generally has a nice creamy look. Lower contrast and probably not as sharp as the newer options, but it's still a solid performer and can often be had for next to nothing. I think I paid about $50 for mine a few years ago.

i had one until recently, and enjoyed using it despite the lack of viewfinder frame etc. i was using a 1.35x magnifier, and found it quite easy to focus. here are two local snapshots just for fun.

have you looked at the cameraquest site, or sean reid reviews, or erwin puts website for comments on the 90 and 135 lenses? lots of good info there.

good luck

I don't know, but I have a hard time finding anything on those places. Erwin just goes on and on about, well, what? And cameraquest needs a face-lift.
But I'll give them another try.

Thank you for your photos and input.
