Passing through Durham city today I called into the local camera store, cut a long story short, had a brief play with a x100 and instantly fell in love. They do part ex, so next week Im taking in a pair of Pentax lx bodies with 28/2.8, 40/2.8, 50/1.7, 85/2 and 100/2.8, Ill see what they offer me, although l love my pentax kit, l have fell head over heals for the x100

I just don't get it. They feel light and tinny to me. I'd FAR rather have a Pentax LX !
Also though - I'm sure you'd get more for the Pentax stuff on EvilBay or here than part ex wouldn't you? They go for ~£250 on there

Be warned, the X100 / X100s is intoxicating.
The first time I handled one was January 2013 in a store that had one of the limited edition black X100 kits. After thinking about it for weeks, I came very close to buying it - but then the X100s was announced, so I waited.
In March 2013 I put my name on a X100s rental waiting list; it showed up in May for a week. I was in love, but I decided to hold out for a black version.
Last week I finally ordered one; it will be here tomorrow.
Be scared. Very, very scared.

It's a canny camera (though, to non-UK members, I should point out that doesn't mean the same as tinny

Have you considered getting a used X100 from eBay or elsewhere? The going rate seems to be about £350-400 now. You might be able to keep your Pentaxes as well...

Yes have toyed with that idea truth is l have not used the pentax kit to much recently, its great kit but l do not want it to gather dust

Rent it first. A good looking camera, but I was less than impressed and now consider it an overpriced point and shoot. Glad I rented before buying. Made me appreciate my Leica M2 even more.
Nothing compares to the M2, great camera, you are very lucky

Shame on you Mick for not getting one sooner. I got mine the week it launched and bought it from up your way, DP Photographic. Still enjoy mine even though I do have the Xpro too.

if had to start from scratch again, I would go with an X100s w/ 28mm and 50mm adapter.
that's all i would really need in terms of focal length.
90mm would be a bonus

Yes - the 28mm-e adapter has been out for a few years, and the 50mm-e one was just announced. Both keep the same f/2 as the native lens but are a little bulky.
I agree with the "rent first" comments. I found it was perfect for me, but you may find different.
