Hell No, Not My Job!

My son and I were on the north side of Fort Wayne, and decided to go the Bob Evans restaurant on Coliseum Boulevard for lunch, where we found this truck in the parking lot. I found it curious that he felt the need to censor the word "Hell." The owner must be serious about it not being his job; there is another sticker on the side of the truck that says, "Not For Hire."

I'm sure there is a message there, but I don't get it. Trucks have become more a statement than the utility vehicle they were when I was a kid, I guess.

I really like the way you handled the tonal differences. How did you accomplish that?

You mentioned before how Fort Wayne has lost several good paying jobs. Maybe this guy is saying, "You're not getting MINE!"😀

It's funny how some people still think hell is a bad word or somehow taboo. I had recently got into an argument on the subway here in NYC and let out a swear and a person or two gasped. I wasn't proud (little kids ride the subway too), but was as shocked as they were about my swear that someone would be shocked by a swear in NYC. 🙂

Interesting. No idea what this truck owner is referring to. Trucks are a macho thing, of course, most of the owners I know have a crate of beer in the back on a Saturday and their golf clubs on a Sunday.

And yes, they do seem to have become more of a vehicle for self-expression and proselytising than a work tool. Gun owner's rights,
anti-abortion, Jesus, and professional or college sports (sadly, there's not that much difference between the two anymore)
seem to be popular motifs around here.

I think the sign is for all the owners' friends and family, telling them

"hell no I'm not a mover and it's not his job to take you beds and furnitures from one place to another. So I'm not for hire"

Looking back I should have put that on my old truck, It always sucked when you were looking to have a relaxing weekend when you get a call asking to help move cause you're the only one they know with a truck.
