Traded in the 5D and picked this up from a local guy for an M2 and a 35mm Summilux with matching hood. The M2 has been in storage for quite some time, and is definitely a shooter camera. It belonged to the seller's father in law who was a cinematographer.

I fired off a roll of expired Tri-X last night while putting up the Christmas tree, and I can say I'm pretty happy with the results. This is the second 35mm summilux I've owned, and the tiny lens really is a gem.

All shots were wide open and developed in Xtol (1:1) for 7-1/4 minutes.

Having lusted after an M2 since the late 1960s, I finally got one a year back. Can't afford a Summilux 35, so made do with a Jupiter 12 and recently opted for the Ultron 35/1.7 which another RFF member wanted to sell. The only problem is that I used an M3 with a SBLOO finder for 17 years, and habit makes me search for an accessory finder after I've focussed.

yes, quite the nice trade. judging from the pics, meterless cameras will work very well for you. i have a 5D and it stays home a lot, while my M2 is out and about. go figure ...

enjoy that combo!
 
I believe it was worth trading 🙂 I also have a 5D that I would not mind trading for an M6. Much more fun. I'll probably sell the DSLR after the holidays (at loss of course, bloody damn digital).
 
Me thinks you got a very good deal here 🙂 The Summilux 35mm is a gem of a lens if ... one likes it's character (as I do, my favorite M-lens 😀)
 
I would have kept the 5d the price of secondhand user M2s are dropping all the time I've seen M2s for as little as £250 here in the UK.

That's part of the reason why I decided to trade it...the value of the 5d didn't seem to hold up while the Ms are a bit more steady....not to mention I've only used the 5D maybe 3 or 4 times in the last 8 months, while the Leica gets much more frequent use.
 
Getting an M2 even for a ballpark $500 would be considered a pretty damn good deal, and the lens added at least another $500 so I think the deal is quite good.
 
It is an art to know when to let go a digital camera. I sold my 5D when I got 2000USD for it. And then I purchased an M2 with 400 USD. Body only, but still....
Since then I call all the digital cameras "consumable" and film cameras "investments". 🙂 It is good PR for defending myself in front of my wife.
 
Welcome to the "thinking person's" camera. You actually have to do everything yourself - focus, exposure, set film counter etc. But You took the shot - not a chip performing a multi task operation!
The Summilux is a nice lens and fits the M2 perfectly. Truth be told, that is all one really needs - though that would spell disasters for the lens industry.
Great looking assistant you have too. He has that look "Ok, you put them up and during the night I will take them down".

Anyone have any comments on which version lux I might have? I assume it's the 1st version.

Quite a rare version of the Summilux too! Great looking lens and it has a lot of "bokeh" (fuzzy stuff) - but also a lot of character.
