Chippy. Offtheherd maybe right.. I think the welta may possibly have a greater tonal range in those jpgs. how do the scans look up close.

If you have a Super Isolette already, that camera would cover everything in 6x6 format.
After that a Plaubel Makina 6x7 would be complimentary (and very cool... ).
Only problem with the Super Isolette is this.
I paid a decent penny for it and it is immaculate.
If it bangs around in my bag for a year or two it will look like worn, or at least not 'mint'. Be that as it may I am hesitant to use it as an everyday shooter.
If anyone has a good functioning but worn looking super isolette I will happily trade it with some $ adjustment.
Wish i could have bought a beater one but couldnt find one so i bought a couple of Iskras intead.
I also have isolette III and Jsolette both with Solinar lens.
The solinar Isolette III is smaller, lighter and was only a quarter the price of the super isolette. Much more my thing for a daily shooter.
Is there THAT much difference between the Isolette III solinar and Super Iso solinar IQ ??
Welta has been getting a lot of film through it and has a toughness about it. If anything is going to get hurt in my bag it's going to be the Welta doing the damage not receiving it !!
Anyway my darkroom chems arrived today, its been a few years and I cant wait !!

I certainly don't have the 6x12 back for 4x5 cameras. I have been tempted just because I think I could manage to afford it. But, that would require another purchase of an Omega negative holder and pay to have it cut to 6x12. Not ready for that just yet. There has been discussion on the forums about that back, but I don't recall anyone saying they have bought it. Maybe someone has and will jump in and talk about it.
Fantastic price on the Fujica. I have a love affair with Fujica ST 801 and ST 901 cameras, and the M42 mount Fujinon lenses. I might be tempted at the price you paid, but I am quite happy with all the 35mm, 6x6, and one 6x9 folders I have. Several of which are Welta.

Welcome to the forum Ian. It was 50's folders that made me ditch my 5D and switch to film 3 years ago. I can highly recommend the Super Baldalux but I'm not so keen on the Certo 6. Its a fine camera but with the lever focus under the lens bed I seem to miss focus too many shots.

Chippie. Thats a nice tri of welta's !! Mine are a little more 'working' condition but i still love 'em. You have convinced me to keep the lens on the weltar instead of trying to frankenstien the gs645 lens and shutter there ( or a rollie plannar). The solinar on my Isolette I (Jsollete) is uncoated. going to back to back it with the coated solinar and see which works best for B+W.
Also what your saying about the condition of the super isolette makes sense now, what the hell was i thinking, go on twist my arm to keep it  It's in my bag today ! I'm sure i'm not the first to find a secret second life for those padded, insulated baby bottle bags. The two bottle size is perfect for a folder, sekonic 308s and a few rolls of film!
Offtheherd- I think back was $179 and he had 10+ new. I'm going to try it but I want to get a second grafic with graflock back for it. Want to use a super angulon 65mm and get a cam for the RF.
Hi Mike,
Great shots on your blog, I lived in Tokyo for a year, what a crazy and cool city.
I also went from Canon 5D to Nikon back to RZ Pro. I now can afford my dream RZ kit which is pretty cool. I picked up a second body for $120, motordrive for $24, absurdly cheap prices on what is premium professional gear. Much as I enjoy film I will shoot digi on paid jobs like shooting a fashion look books or bulk product shoots. Right tools for the job etc. Many clients are happy to hear that they will get trannies over files, here in NY I can same day rush no extra charge and my lab is open till 10pm 7 days !! I remember when 'The Lab' in Sydney was 24 hrs miss that, wonder if its even still there.
Hows the lens on the super baldax vs certo six compared to solinar ?
I would love to put a rollei plannar onto an old welta or similar, in the meantime I saw some kids shots with a f6.3 novar nettar on flickr that blew me away. Part of me would also like a rolleiflex e or f but I figure if I'm carrying that I may as well take the RZ with all the extras stripped off to save weight. Maybe a rollei slr ? anyway back to work for me now.
I cant wait to get my 534/16 back from CLA.

What I don't like about the Certo Six: It's impossible to close the camera with cocked shutter!

Now I know why a guy can't find a reasonably priced Zenobia anymore...
Welcome, Ian. I hate you. And kuzano, too.

Sometimes it's the most understated cameras that are the most to use, eg Zenobia's, Welta's.
batterytypehah! - kuzano has all the neo-hesper lens ones !!! :bang: I only have the regular hesper versions
Still takes a very nice photo. They have that tough feel to them like the weltas do.

The lens on the Super Isolette (Solinar) is out there with Hasselblad lenses IMHO.
My Balda has the f2.9 Ennagon lens, its good but not a patch on the Solinar.
The Certo 6 I have has a f2.8 Tessar lens and when I nail the focus it’s good but all too often I miss focus.
I also have a Zeiss Super Ikonta IV with working light meter and apart from the issue with frame spacing this camera is excellent.

Mike - do you attribute missing the focus because the slider is hard to use for fine focus ? I'm assuming you checked it with a ground glass and its the lever ergonomics thats the problem.
When I get some time off of work (in my dreams) I'll love to do a lens test including :
- solinar in various flavors : uncoated/iso III vers/super iso
- Opteron and Jena 2.8 and 3.5 Tessars
- Mamiya RZ Pro 110mm
- Fuji GS645 folder
- iskra
- nikon 50 55 85 all f1.4 on dslr
- Rodenstock Apo-Sironar-N (caltor II-N) 150 5.6 on LF
- and cant forget to add the 4-element zenobia hesper !!
I'll shoot and process the film, just the scanning time is the P.I.T.A. i might just have to send it all to scan cafe.

I atribute the Certo 6’s poor performance to the operator... The slider is hard to use and despite being a big fat lump I have small hands so I find it difficult to get a good steady grip on the camera and still be able to effectively use the focus slider.
I often don’t have long to take a shot and can rush things a bit, when I have the time, the focus is usually bang on though I’ve never checked it with a ground glass.

Both cameras shots look brilliant.
the certo doesnt seem to be having any focus problems there !!
Do you feel the super ikonta can hang with the unit focus lenses.
While all these comparisons are fun, and its good to go for the best, I find it easy to forget I have shot billboards and fashion catalogs on cheap 'E' series nikon 35mm glass and have had more stuff published using a 3.1mp canon G1 than I would care to admit to.

Yes, I’ve not seen any issue with this camera other than the tight film spacing.
