Hi,

I've been lurking the forums ever since I started researching my next camera purchase, which eventually led me to a new Leica MP (which just arrived today 🙂 ). Haven't had a chance to really play with it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. Of course, the sheer cost of getting my new kit means I'll be eating macaroni and cheese exclusively for the next six to eight months, but eating's overrated anyway. 😉

This is my first rangefinder (and therefore, my first Leica) and, after having done lots of research, I opted for a new MP and 50/2.0 Summicron which I purchased new from Tony Rose over at Popflash. I also own a Nikon FM3a and an Olympus OM-2, both with a variety of primes.

Looking to learn something here and maybe eventually share some photos when I'm more comfortable doing so!
 
Welcome, Derek. I know the thrill of being a new Leica owner. And of having to tighten the belt afterwards. You're more sophisticated than me! You're having macaroni & cheese, oh la la! I was having ramen noodles for a few weeks. PBJ became supper. It's worth it, though. Besides, I needed to lose a few pounds...

Congrats on your new MP.
 
welcome derek... if you find that the MP doesn't do it for you, I'll be glad to take it off your hands for a very generous 50 cents on the dollar.. you know how badly that Leica stuff depreciates 😀

I must admit, I do like ketchup on my macaroni & cheese sometimes.. 😱

Hopefully won't get too tempted into getting more gear in the near future, but I can already feel another lens calling me. Come to think of it, that Lowepro bag I've been using for my Nikon seems a bit big... I guess I'll just have to get a new one for my smaller Leica now...
 
Welcome Derek. After a while you'll get fed up of the old macaroni cheese, you'll eat less of it, so you save even more money. 😀

With a second lens (I'd recommend a 35) you might have to cut back on the cheese. 😀

Yes a 35 sounds good. Very different from a 50... One thing you can be assured of is that you won't get tempted here at all. We do not encourage GAS and in fact of course we all abhor it. 😀

Also as you have probably figured out you cannot trust Joe. His recommendation of these pseudo-upper class bags is a case in point. 😛 What you need is a Domke F-803 or clone, something that is functionally designed for a photog to work out of rather than a person to feed horses out of at a fox hunt. 😀

maybe i need to point out AGAIN, that i rarely buy gear that is new!

my m classic & billingham are a case in point.
way cheaper to buy from a seller that has discovered this bag is not for them and might as well sell instead of stuffing in a closet.

i think only one of my grips was new...

Hah, got Joe on the defensive LOL! 😉 But don't you think those twerpy little leather catcha-macallits that hang out of those bags are... you know... a bit - precious? Is that the word? 😀
