I have a zorki 4k who's rf needed adjusting.
I found a guide online and performed some adjustments today. It is now a lot closer but I'm not sure perfect.

I calibrated it by making sure it was correct at infinity.

Comparing it to the r2a it's not acurate close up...

If I can calibrate it close up by comparing it to the r2a and using a tape measure to double check the results should this make it acurate accross the range... Or is there some reason it should be done at infinity?

If you must adjust your rangefinder, start at the 1 meter. If that is incorrect, you have to adjust the tip at the rangfinderarm. Next adjust at infinity. This will throw out the 1m again; you have to make this several times, until both are in, 1m and infinity....check also at other close ranges: 2, 3 10 m.

About 2 hours of frustration and I gave up ...
First I tried it with the summarit.
I could get to focus close up to about 7' beyond that it started drifting and by infinity it was pretty out.
I must have made 20 almost non existent adjustments to come to the conclusion I wasn't making any progress.
So I mounted the jupiter 8, which was without making any adjustments from te summarit a mile out!
So I started from scratch ... On this occasion I ha to rotate the rf couple a bit ... But still no joy...
I then got my self into the tedious circle of rotating he rf couple a bit then trying to adjust the rf to both infinity and 1m ... Failing, starting over, and again, and again ... I gave my self severe pain in the temples ...

So I'm now at a lost end ... I have read a few guides and I can't see where I am going wrong...

I can guess it will cost far more than the camera is worth to get a CLA done .... But it is in pretty much mint condition so maybe it's worth it ... Maybe not?

Does anyone know anyone in the uk who could do this for me for not a silly amount of ££

Or sell it for spares?
Or leave it on the shelf and do the sencible thing and use the r2a (I don't always like being sencible)

If you look at the top of the sub-forum, you'll find a guide that explains the correct procedure - don't know if you've read that already. Are you only trying to adjust the horizontal, is the vertical alignment ok?

PM me if you want, I'm not far away from you, we may be able to arrange for me to look at it - I'm no stranger to the 4K's innards!

Crackin' good man, pm on way ...

For the sake of the thread, in answer to the questions- just horizontal, vertical seems fine (???)
I've read the guides, followed them, I'm just not getting anywhere!

Thanks for your help (so far :))

Check with only one lens. Choose either Summarit or Jupiter. It won't be OK on both!!!
Due to different standard lens focal length there is slight difference between Leica lenses and FSU lenses which are derived from pre-war Zeiss Contax lenses.

I sometimes calibrate my Zorki with Summitar or Elmar lenses. The Jupiter-8 and Jupiter-3 used on these calibrated cameras focus just fine.
