***Help***Breaking prism on my nikon SP

I recently had my SP in for a CLA. It too had a chipped prism, but it was replaced by one from a S/M Leica IIIg.

probably for the moving mirror,
but not the specially made and cut prisms within the very complicated SP viewfinder.

Yes we are talking about the moving mirror. But this mirror is inside an optical cemented unit, the front element is an optical convergent element not just a passive piece of glass, so calling it a "prism" is fully legit.

This part is held in place by two small screws, the casting in which it's held in place has fixed measurements so not any RF mirror would fit without some modifications, but any competent repairman should do it, sure.

I would bet Sover Wong, formerly of the HK and now in the UK, could fix it: sover2repair at yahoo dot com.

the nikon prisms are gold coated so provide a warm rf spot .
leitz ones are silver plated so the image is colder tone .

perhaps many may fit -- the gold tone makes for contrast in the rf spot (the sp finder has a green bias so gold spot stands out )

it is possible to repair with a light curring uv cement - removeing the prism to do this may cause furthur damage to the prism ( they are glued into the metal bracket )
i had a prism come loose in an s2 years ago in the process it received a chipped corner . it was reset by ken ruth at photography on bald mountain ,
many repair people i sent it to returnd it as unrepairable /good source of parts
i was able to use the camera for many years after .

dont give up on a repair -- you will eventually find the parts .

I am still looking for one............reli hard to locate one........sigh......should anyone can find one.....please do send me a pm or email me: williamlam616 at gmail dot com. Thanks a million.

I think you've now gathered enough information here so that you can have your camera repaired by a tech. with custom fitted parts or even repair it yourself with a matching part coming from a Nikon S2 donor body.
