I own both the M5 and MP240. I have 8 M mount lenses from all three manufacturers. I dropped my 35f1.2 and sent it to Cameraquest for repair. Now I got it back a couple weeks ago and noticed it and my M5 are not happy together.

When I focus the Nokton on an object about six feet away, the distance scale on the lens shows .7m (minimum focus distance). This is just on my M5. On the MP240, the distance shown is correct and both the rangefinder and live view agree. The other thing I notice with this lens on the M5 is I can rotate the focus ring 20 degrees or so and the split image in the rangefinder does not move. Again, this does not happen on the MP240. So, this leads me to suspect the M5 right?

However, my other seven M mount lenses work just fine on the M5. When I focus they all show the same distance on the focus scale (approximately six feet). They show the same on the MP240 and live view confirms the rangefinder is focusing correctly.

So why would one lens (35f1.2 Version I) work correctly on the MP240 but not on the M5 when all the other lenses work fine on both cameras? I suspect I will have to send both the M5 and 35f1.2 back to Cameraquest but does anyone have any ideas?

Check the cam on the lens to see if it is dirty.
Open up the M5, attach a cable release and lock the shutter open on bulb. Look in to see where the lens cam is and how the cam follower on the M5 is riding on it. Could be a slight misalignment. This is common in FSU cameras.
While the shutter is open, swap your lenses to some known good ones that work on the M5 and again look to see how the cam follower rides on the lens cam.
Also, make sure your suspect lens focuses accurately at infinity as well. This is actually where you should start with the 240 then against the optical RF in the M5. If infinity is off, send it back for repair.
