Hey everyone, I need some help. I just purchased a used lens online and it finally arrived. It looks very clean with no noticeable imperfections until I did the dreaded "flashlight test". There seems to be what looks like haze on the inner element. I just want to know if I'm over reacting. Please take a look and tell me what you guys think. I am planning to shoot a test roll tomorrow, but even if the pics turn out fine I'm considering getting a refund because this lens was NOT cheap. Well, enough talk here is the pic.

Most older lenses look ugly with the flashlight test, check the test roll to decide if it's an issue that needs solving, or if the results are up to your expectations.

At the same time contact the seller to let them know you're concerned about the level of haze inside the lens which was not specified in their ad, this will help shape everyone's expectations.

Good luck,

Alex

Every pre 80's Leica lens I have ever bought had haze. When I buy something that old ( and that especially includes Rollei TLR's ) I alway factor in a CLA. However some haze cannot be cleaned without removing the coating so I would get an expert opinion while you still can return it.

That haze looks pretty severe to me. I would either return it, or get a partial refund from the seller for the cost of professional service to remove the haze

Please tell us the make/model and -if you know- the age of your lens.

I knew I forgot something! It's a m-hexanon 50 f2. Not sure of the age, but they were produced from 99-03 I believe, so its not that old.

Is it normal for a lens that young to have so much haze? I chose this lens over an old leica because I was trying to avoid things like this! :bang:

Ouch. I just assumed it was a vintage lens. This is quite unusual for a recent vintage Hexanon. I would return it and look for another.
