Hey Gang,
I have successfully shot one roll of film through my new to me M6. Today i loaded a new roll of film in the camera and tonight i noticed that the meters were not coming on. I clicked the shutter and it made a very weird noise like something was dying, not loud but not good.

Can someone confirm that this is what happens when the battery dies and not something worse ;-( I'm going to head down and pick up a new battery in the morning and am praying that is all it is. I did realize that I forgot to put it on B the last time i put it in my bag so perhaps it activated the meters and ran the battery down.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cris...

The shutter on the M6 has nothing to do with the battery being dead or not. The M7 on the other hand is battery dependent with a couple of exceptions. Sounds like you might have a problem.

Dear Cris,

Or you're just hearing the normal 'whirrr..rr.r' as the slow speed train runs down after a long shutter speed. The battery has nothing to do with the shutter.

Cheers,

R.

I guess i did have it on a 1 second exposure which might be the case for the weird sound. I'll pick up a battery tomorrow and hope it gets the meters going again and life back to normal.

Thanks for the response.

I do agree that the 1 sec exposure on the m6 sounds like it is dying! No meter = a (hopefully) simple fix... new batteries!

regards,

James.

and, while you are at it, make sure to either put the camera on B (or off, if it a TTL model) or not advance the film before putting the camera away. If something rests on the shutter release, the meter will run down the battery in a hurry.

It happened to me last week... One of my cameras' meter died... My first thought was here we go, now I'll have to send it for repair... Surely I did bump it or it wasn't well built...

And I even had 3 pairs of batteries inside my wallet! Only 2 days after, I thought could it be the batteries?

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one...

Cheers,

Juan
