I hope I am not alone in making this mistake. I could have sworn that I had Tri-X loaded in my M2. I normally set the ISO I want to work at on my Gossen Digisix whenever I load film to avoid such a problem. Well, I shot off a roll of what I thought was Tri-X (during an airplane flight, in a restaurant, etc.) wanting to push it to iso 2000. When I opened up the camera to re-load, a canister of Delta 100 popped out. 😱

I always look at such matters not as a disaster, but an opportunity. I would appreciate any advice on developing a roll of Delta 100 pushed 4 and a half stops 😀 . I normally use either Rodinal or Xtol and, as some of you know, I often use them at the same time. In this case, however, I am open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks for your help.

Xtol is probably your best bet. Massive dev charts lists times up to 800 iso for this combo. Extrapolating the data for stock solution gives a time of 18.75 minutes:

Robert, I haven't tried the Xtol at 20 min and a 4.5 stop push! However. I have on occasion screwed up like that. ISO 40 Neopan F shot a 400, EFKE 25 shot at 400 etc (one should learn from mistakes, but loading in deep shadow is tricky and those damned Fuji cassettes are all green!). OK, there are more like that, but I am listing them all as I want to keep some dignity!
What I have done is run the Neopan 40 @ 400 in Rodinal 1:10 for 10 min. You get a truly ugly negative but it can be printed. The EFKE 25 @ 400 I used D-76 1:3 for a 90 min stand developing, came out thin and with very artistic shadows but OK mid tones.
With the ACROS (which does not like being pushed) I would be tempted to try a stand developer, either highly dilute Rodinal 1:100/80-90 minutes or even a :150 for a couple of hours. At least this way you would get a more even mid-range. I suspect that shadows will be blocked substantially though in anything.

Thanks to Steverett and Tom A for their input. You have both given me an idea. I will be sure to post results when I soup it up.
