A friend of mine found this lens and asked me if I knew what it was or wanted it. I won't be able to see it until Monday.

All I've got is this photo:

What is it?!

It says it's a Summicron 90 on the front ring, serial number indicates it was made in 1966 in Canada. It looks like it's screw mount, but what's the deal with the rear protrusion? It looks nothing like any of the Summicrons or a Leitz lens at all for that matter..

Thanks!

Is there a focusing control? Maybe the milled ring, but it doesn't look right. This thing looks too short. It has the "collapsible drinking cup" hood of an early Summicron, but . . . It seems to be in a short mount. For a bellows, maybe? I don't know that the part sticking out the back is a rear extension protruding into the camera, a la 21mm SA. It could just be the rest of the lens--the rear elements--that would only extend into the focusing mount for the Visoflex, or the bellows.

It's the 2nd generation summicron head only. The focusing mount is missing. The serated ring is strange and may have been modified at some point. In any case it will mate to a focusing mount to use on a visoflex or reflex camera. Also. An be used on a bellows with the appropriate adapter. The exact focal length is most likely engraved on the mount for the rear elements.

It was recognizable in some form, glad I now know what the deal is. I had no idea that the lens could be separated like that. I saw the threads and immediately thought screw mount. I apologize since this is in the wrong sub-forum.

In any case, thanks for the help with the diagnosis!
