Hi ppl.
I have a Leica IIIc that needs a full CLA. Well, at least new courtains and speed adjustments.
I would like to know about EU loocations that do this job, possible experiences and prices if possible 🙂.
Thanks all!

Herr Wiener in Munich might do a III as well. He did my M2. Price was reasonable. Turn-over was quick. But he doesn't have email. You can find his address on nemeng.com .

Hi Pedro,

as far as Germany is concerned, I can come to think of two addresses:

1. Horst ENZMANN, Kamerareparaturen, Meissendorfer Weg 8, 29308 Winsen-Bannetze,
Phone (0049)-5146-8314

He has so far fixed a Contax, a Zeiss Ikon and an Ica for me, all now perfectly working; he is a specialist for Zeiss Ikon and Voigtlaender, but I have also seen screwmount Leicas in his workshop myself, and he told me that due to their comparatively simple design, shutter curtain replacement and speed adjustment are no problem. Cost for repair is between €€ and €€€ depending upon the number of hours it has taken him to fix the problem. As he loves cameras, he doesn't make you bleed too much, in my case it might have been €€€€ otherwise... Cameras have been sent to him from South America because of his skills!

2. BATCHVAROV & THIEL Kamerareparaturen, Sybelstrasse 19, 10629 Berlin, Phone (0049)-30-3238319, Fax (0049)-30-3238696. They are reputed to fix any problem with vintage cameras, but I have no experience so far and therefore no idea about the prices.

Good luck!

Ok, Pedro, here's the news from Hannover, Germany.

Payed Mr. and Mrs. Kielgas a visit today (Baumstrasse 19, 30171 Hannover, Phone 0049-511-814699, Fax 0049-511-819936). Leica IIIc CLA no problem.
Price for ONE curtain plus internal cleaning and speed adjustment: 362,50.- €.

First, I would contact Mr. Enzmann (see above) and compare prices.

Second, hasn't there been (or isn't there still) a Leica production in Portugal? The place is Vila Nova de Famalicao, near Porto. I don't know how to manage, but I'd go and try whether I can find a repairman there. Sometimes the retired workers put up their own repair business (like Mr. Enzmann and Mr. Kielgas here!).

Good Luck!

Jesko

I can recommend CRR in Luton, UK (http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Leica/) without any hesitation whatsoever. Peter has serviced a II, IIIa and IIIc (the latter with fitting of new shutter curtains) for me over the last couple of years. They've all come back looking as close to new as possible and working beautifully. The prices are good and he's always gor a backlog of cameras to work on which must say something.
Malcolm Taylor in the UK (he often advertises in Amateur Photographer) is also excellent but quite expensive.

Peter has my M3 at CRR right now; I will report when I get it back, but everything I've read and he's said made me think it was the place to send it...

The video that Peter at CRR sells which shows a complete stripdown and rebuild of a IIIf is well worth a look for anyone tempted to dive into a screw mount Leica. Basically it highlights the fact that to do it properly is a highly skilled job which needs experience and the right tools. (ie. don't do it!!)
He's also cleaned and serviced lenses for me and did a lovely job on a very misty VIOOH viewfinder. If you're convinced they're not bright and clear to look through, think again!

Hi ppl. Thanks all for your comments and info!
Today i went to a pro-lab that sells leica gear and ask for a mechanic. They gave me an address here in Lisbon, so i went and left the camera for a quote... The mechanic was leaving for christmas and new year holliday, so i must wait till next year 🙂. He did said that finding new curtains could be difficult...
So, lets wait and see 🙂

I can supply him with the thin curtain cloth your Leica will need. What I have is .006-.0065" thick. I don't know of anyone else who has the thin cloth any longer.
