If you want a Leica, then settle for nothing less.

My one suggestion would be to pack a small selenium meter, in case you run into an instance in which the battery for the meter dies but a new one isn't readily available. That way, with the M6, you can continue shooting, and you'll still have a meter with you. The battery powers only the meter and not the shutter.

And if you don't have an occasion to use the small handheld meter, great. It won't take up much space. And if you do, then it's there.

If you were thick eye-glasses and want to use a 35mm FL lens and like TTL flash metering then the M6TTL with a 0.58x VF might be perfect for you. If you need additionally AE, the M7 with 0.58x VF will do the job very good. 🙂

I concur with Gabor. Though I would add the ZI as a great .74x VF for those with glasses; it is the best VF I have used with a 35mm lens. The long EBL is great for the accurate focusing of fast lenses or if you like to do some shooting in low light.

Correct - I have a ZI and three Ms (M3, M8 and 0.72 MP), and for glasses wearers like me there is no comparison, the ZI viewfinder wins hands down. I don't believe a 0.58 VF on a Leica M will enable you to see more.

Buy M6 and cron and be happy with it... Don't bother about digital... It's going to die soon, anyway... 😉

I don't get the "price going down" argument. I don't think i've ever bought a camera/piece of electronics/gadget with the thought process that it will have good resale value. Usually I just buy it because I want to use it.

Prices of film cameras have fallen drastically over the last couple of years.

If you are sick and tired of the D700 and Digital experience, why not put a "For Trade" ad up in the classified section. They are free. You might get a nibble. An M6 is a good choice if you need a through the lens meter. If not, an M2 or M4 is well worth looking at.
