Help me decide! Down to 2 cameras

Well, I can get the R2A from the guy for $450USD. I could pair it with a 28 or a 35.. something fast. I guess eventually I'll want a wider and a 50, so I think I'll stick to buying a kit, just to save a few bucks. Starving student budget, y'know 😉

The R2A is a nice camera. I've got an R3A, and had a Bessa R before that. AE is nice. The vf on the R2* is a great all 'rounder: framelines for 35 and 50, and easy to use the entire vf for 28 (what I did w/ the Bessa R -- worked just fine). Either of your options sounds good, if presented w/ your choices I'd go w/ the R2A/50 hex mainly b/c of the AE. You can always sell the 50mm and use the proceeds to subsize the cost of a fast 35 like the Nokton 35, or buy a used Ultron 35 or a nice Canon 35 and use the extra money for film. 🙂

Dylan,

Are you crazy dude? Why switch? There are some great lenses to be had for the S2, world class ones. I had an S2 with a 50/1.4 and loved it. Then I got a CV 25/4 that worked great, my favorite lens in my LTM/M kits and came over every bit as good. I got a 105/2.5 and still have her. Again, I loved it in LTM so it was easy to love on my S2. I even tracked down a Bright Line finder for her. I picked up a S3-2000 and got another CV 35/2.5 for her. 2 CVs and 2 Nikkors. Then got the 50/1.4 Millennium, bigger but one of the best ever. Recently I picked up a Nikkor 35/1.8 for under $400 and it's a great lens. I sold my 35/2.5 to a friend down town for a great deal.

I've sold all of my Ms and Bessas to help put food on the table but I've kept the S3-2000. If money does not loosen up and I will sell it too. But I love my Nikon RF, for me it's better than any M or Bessa that I've ever owned.

Cameraquest has several new CV lenses and some great used ones for a Nikon. Do not trade in the S2 for a Bessa, no reason to. Stick with the Nikon and look for great glass to add to your system. There is plenty out there to be had, just need to look.

spend a bit of extra cash and go for that hexanon. Battery dependence is not that big a deal, hell, i have to recharge the batteries for my digitals every night, changing batteries once every 6 months at most is certainly minor.
