I'm looking for something to make my Oly OM-2N a little more grippy. That is, I often carry it in my right hand, gripping the right side of the camera. Life would be better if I could put it in something like a half case.

As far as I know, half cases weren't made for the OM series. I wonder of any of the OM users out there have improvised something.

I found my OM-4 too small for me and not comfortable. Solved this with a Winder 2 which give a little more heft and gives me a right sided grip. Using the half case is an alternative for me also.

I use the bottom half of the original "never ready" camera case. They snap apart.

One thing I really don't like about that half case is the tripod knob on the bottom, with the possible exception of being able to use an R-strap with the half case.

I just don't like that protrusion on the bottom. Can't set it down without it wobbling and falling over onto the filter ring. It adds weight and it's got no class either. And it's fake leather to boot.

One solution is a Leica M case ... I have a Luigi grip case that I picked up cheap off ebay and with a little packing in the bottom it fits the Oly perfectly ... I use it all the time!

Luigi also makes grip'ed Bessa cases. They fit the OMs perfectly (lugs are in the same place), except for the location of the viewfinder.

I've given up on the OM grip thing, and hold the camera(s) differently: more weight in the left hand holding the lens. With the shutter speed right there the left hand becomes the "main hand".

The Olympus 1.4N semi-hard case is real leather and does not have a tripod mount on the bottom.

The top fits the shorter lenses, such as the 50/1.4, and even the 21/2.

There's also a 1.2N case that looks very similar to the 1.4N. I believe it will fit over longer lenses.

I use the bottom half of the 1.4N for a half-case, and it is perfect. Maybe not as classy as a Luigi case, but it is totally functional: it looks nice, gives a little extra to hold onto, and protects the camera.

KEH has a few of the 1.4N cases, so I just ordered one. That seems the cheapest option.

I don't have a problem holding the thing to actually shoot. I often just cradle it in my palm with my fingers gripping the lens when I'm walking around. But, I also like to carry cameras by gripping them on the right side between my thumb and fingers, with a Gordy strap around my wrist as a safety net. That's when the OM could do with more grippiness. (Especially in these parts, where we've had more than 70 days this summer with highs above 90F. Too freakin' hot. Makes for sweaty fingers. Friday it'll probably hit 100F, again. Meanwhile, there's a hurricane off the coast.)

I like that medium gray on the black body. I may have to do the same for my Contax. Unless I decide to do something flamboyant.
