Help me play the "What if I suddenly won $1000, what should I buy?" game.

This morning while getting coffee, I played one of our lottery games and actually won a little over $1000. Now what camera related items should I blow this small windfall on?

I am thinking maybe a Bessa R2c so that I can use my Contax glass with a bright view finder.

Maybe a Leica M2 to use some of my ltm glass and to finally join the dark side.

An Epson 4990 scanner would be nice.

I have always wanted a Nikkor 180mm f2.8 EDIF for my F3HP, sorry guys.

A set of Pocket Wizard remotes has some appeal to me.

A Rolleiflex Tlr.

An enlarger that handles 8x10 negatives, hmmm, I would need to build a bigger garage for that one.

Any way, I am basically just thinking out loud and gloating too of course.

My kids are grown and left the nest so they don't need fed or shoes.

this reinforces my idea that we should organise an rff lottery participation.. if everyone paypals someone $5 per year, and then he or she buy a lottery ticket each month or year - if we win anything, we could split it among the participating rff'ers 😉

about your choices, they all look excellent.. that 180/2.8 is a fabulous lens.. M2, enough said.. 8x10 negatives, ack!..

With the way prices are now I'm tempted to say pick up a Hasselblad 500C/M kit.
You should be able to get a body, 80mm lens and A12 back for that thousand dollars.

Great suggestion Rich, If it were me with a disposable grand that's where my money would go, or maybe a Graflex with a roll back.

May I suggest an airline ticket to a distination you always dream about going and a few rolls of film instead of another camera purchase, assuming that you already have at least a point-and-shoot? with $1000 you could really go to a pretty far corner of the earth.

I have 3 Bronica ETR/ETRS bodies with 50mm, 75mm, and 150mm lens and the Graphics with 6x7 roll film back ( a Crown Graphic and a Super Graphic).

The reason I listed the Rolleiflex was because it gives Hassy quality in a lighter and quieter package.

This did get me to thinking about the Bronica RF645 though. I looked at Robert White, but it seems they are out of them.

I was just kidding about drawing out the Canon P from the hat. I already have two P's that I have had CLA'd by Essex. I highly recommend them. 15 day turn-a-round time and $118 total including shipping for each.

In all reality I have no real pressing need for any camera. But I have these wants.........

Maybe I should CLA my Contax cameras, buy a Cannon LTM 100mm f2.0, and a boat load of film and developer.

When I was a youth I spent 98% of my earnings on booze, firearms and chasing wild women. The other 2% I just wasted.

This is a very good idea. I have a son in Lake Tahoe, when I was out there last fall I got sicker than I have ever been in my life and for two weeks I shot maybe 3 rolls of film total. Maybe I should go out there again in April and try it again.

Wayne, congratulations. Now you'll have to change the phrase below your user name.

Spend the money on something that can take your shooting in a different direction, like the TLR.

FWIW, I had a similar "problem" last month...I bought some LTM lenses from my want list and saved the rest for travel.

Get the R2C.

When they are gone, that will be the last "modern" camera with a bright viewfinder that can take those Contax lenses.

The 180/2.8 EDIF is nice; but the 180/2.8 Nikkor-P AI'd that I have is no slouch either. Some hinted that the original 180 used ED glass before it was named. Much less money.

Or you could get a really nice M2, just CLA'd.

Or a Zeiss.

Ask Dave what to do.

BTW: Congratulations. I think this is a much better way to do the RFF lottery. Everybody buys their own tickets. When they win, they post a "Help me spend my winnings" thread.

We should do the same with salary bonusses.

An enlarger, Wayne. That way I can send you any of the 5x7 negatives that I actually want enlarged. 😛

But an M2/M3 or Bessa would be a great idea along with that lens you always wanted. So would the plane ticket.

Steph,

If you get the 4x5 reducing back I can enlarge those 4x5 negs for you now.

Eww...not in the same sentence 🙂
That's like saying Filet Mignon, Chateaubriand or McDonald's 🙂
