Don't worry too much; just toss a coin to decide which you'll buy first as it sounds to me as though you'll end up with all of them or, at least, one of each. it might take you the rest of your life but you'll get there eventually...

Pro-Tip: M4-P + Handheld light meter. Why would you pay twice the money for an M6 which is identical to the M4-P but only has a built in light meter? With handheld you also get a far superior incident light metering. Lens? Look into CV Nokton 35mm f1.4, it is a pre-asph summilux, would you turn your nose up to a pre-asph summilux?. Not only will it cost you half the money you are planning to spend right now, it works better. M4-P all black all mechanical, with incident light meter and a f1.4 lens? But hey, it's your cash. But don't get bamboozled by fancy names like leica shmeica, Carl zeiss this and that. You can get 99% of the product with what I've mentioned, for a lot less money. And the money you save? Buy film. Makes sense to my ears.

i think i'd rather have a built in meter to be honest. I tried an M3 and used an external meter and and though it was OK it was extra stuff to carry. I have a gossen lunasix which is quite hefty.
 
Having a built in meter is very convenient.
I suggest:
- chrome non-TTL M6 body: looks better (IMO) and wears better than black body
- 35mm f2 Biogon: superb lens; the extra stop will come in handy

I'd be happy with this if the Biogon f2 was the same size as the f2.8 though you may be right with that extra stop.

I missed the hood, but still the second hand prices for M fit lenses is crazy! I am lucky I have what I want now. The only thing I might end up doing is selling my summicron for a cheaper 35 if the prices go even more crazy! 😉
 
@Poppers: with the f2 Biogon lens focussed at infinity:
- without hood, there is very minimal blockage of the bottom right corner; really negligible.
- with the hood (which is vented), the blocakage is obviously more; the arc of the round hood intersects the 35mm framelines at approximately 40% from the bottom right hand corner (if that make sense). The venting of the hood minimises the blockage... you get used to it very quickly.

The M6/35 f2 is not a pocketabe package unless you are wearing an overcoat with large pockets. However, you can fit the camera and several lenses into a very small bag such as the Lowepro Rezo 140AW:

If you want to get the most for your money then you should think about a classic M6 0.72 rather than a TTL, and a black one would be cheaper than a chrome one. Lens wise, if the Biogon is cheaper in chrome than black and easier to get, then go for the chrome - chrome lenses on black bodies don't look bad at all, and in the end it's all about the pictures anyway.

I think you're right, and as this is the last camera I buy for a while i just want to get my decision right from the start, especially in the current financial climate. It may be my last opportunity to spend some money before I really have to tighten my belt
 
Well I got my lens. I saw an F2 Biogon used for a good price. I kind of wanted the f2.8 but decided if i can't live with the size of the f2 I can sell it and get the 2.8

Now for the body. I looked at 4 different M6s today from well used classic for £650 up to a Mint boxed TTL for £950. I couldn't decide. I thought maybe the well used one then i wouldn't be afraid to use it, but then something a bit nicer boxed might be easier to move on if it's not for me. Seeing as the is an experiment if it's not for me perhaps spending less is better.

Any ideas?
 
I guess it depends what you mean by "well used", but if you can inspect it yourself and it appears to work OK (and there's a return option in case there's hidden trouble) - why not get the cheaper one. A collector grade camera is not going to take better photographs if it works the same as the user one.

Just for comparison purposes, here's an M4-P, for roughly the equivalent of £650: https://www.leicashop.com/vintage/m4p-black-p-215.html Not a raging bargain but looks to be a solid deal from a shop with a decent reputation.
