Well, my very nice Canon 35/2.0 came to me in great shape from jiri_e and with a 40mm UV filter to protect the front element. But i want a lens cap and can't find one for 40mm. If I look for a push-on cap, would it be designated as a 42mm cap? Anybody either have one I can buy or know where I can pick one up?

The reason I ask is that the UV filter seems to give me vignetting when the aperture's wide open on this lens.

yes, a 42mm push-on cap is the right size.

With regard to the vignetting issue, have you tried a low-profile (thin) UV filter? Such a filter seems to lessen or eliminate vignetting on lenses like the Canon 35/1.5.

Don't know of a source of real Canon caps, except for eBay.

here is what i did for my summar it's not the prettiest thing but it works . a cap from a length of copper pipe they should have them at the bigbox places or a plumbing supply house try a couple sizes i.e. 3/4 or 1 inch and they should be free . i lined mine with armaflex a pipe insulation just for some cushion but it's not necessary

Fedka lists 40.5 mm lens caps for sale, they should fit the 35/f2 Canon lens with its 40mm filter dia.

Thanks everyone - I don't need "genuine" anything other than lenses or cameras! 😉 I ordered 2 plastic caps stamped "Leica" that should work. Unless my lens picks a fight with the cap.

I've encountered 2 types of plastic 42mm Leica caps -- the one with "Leica" in block letters fits Canon LTM lenses well; the one with "Leica" in script is a bit too tight. (Both were intended for lenses with 39mm filter, I guess.)

What I've found is that vintage plastic 42mm Minolta caps fit perfectly on Canon lenses with 40mm filter ring and on Nikkors with 40.5mm filter ring.
