Help needed during my M6 test drive

I'm using a rented M6 classic with fresh battery. The meter indicator lights come on only sporadically when I lightly depress the shutter.

I down loaded an operator's guide (because I remember them staying on for a several seconds at least ) and the guide says they should remain lit for about 12 secs. I'm getting the arrows for about 1 sec and then they go out. Sometimes they don't come on at all!

I checked the battery and it generated a "good" on my meter.

I'm thinking the shutter button is wonky and not hitting whatever contact it needs to hit to turn on the indicators.

Any thoughts!

Does the meter really stay on for 12 secs when the shutter is depressed?

Someone told me it's only on for about 2 seconds.

I need to know how long the meter indicator arrows remain lit, so I can determine whether the camera is working properly.
