Help needed! Electro 35

Hi there! This is my first post. I recently bought a GS from a pawn shop. It seems to work fine, except for the automatic shutter times. I took the top off to have a look, and immediately noticed that a spring was hanging loose [see picture, in the centre]. Does anyone know where it should connect to?

And if you have any suggestions as to why the shutter automation may not be functioning? Could it be caused by a worn POD?

I think it has to be fixed in direction to the Front of the Camera. If you can't find the right place to lock, I'm gonna disassemble mine GSN tomorrow.

Thanks chaps. I'll try b1bmsgt. I had already looked at yashica-guy's site, its obvious the spring attaches to something at the front, but he doesn't have any shots from that angle. I hope the GSN disassemble goes OK!

Thankyou so much Russ, that was exactly what I needed. However, while repairing that I unfortunately managed to knock the frame counter out of sync..... I'm still learning about camera repair.

I'd love to send my camera to you Russ, but I can't afford it at the moment (what with the exchange rate from Australia and postage). I"ll try and find a working one here or relatively cheap on ebay to compare against it.

What exactly did you do to the frame counter? Maybe I can help you with it...

Hi Russ,

To be honest, I'm not sure. I think it must be that I dislodged something when putting it back together. The camera operates the shuttter and winds on correctly, but the frame counter, and the cog beneath it, do not turn.

I think I see the problem. When the film door is closed, the arm under the batt check light bracket should be engaged with the gear under the numeral wheel. It looks as though the batt check bracket is bent down, preventing the arm from moving in. Try bending the bracket up and see if the arm pops into place.

In the future, I think you'll find that it is easier and safer to just take the screw out that holds the bracket and the green cover and leave the bulb in place in the bracket. It's real easy to break a bulb trying to pull it out of the bracket.

Thankyou Russ. Your suggestion wasn't the exact cause, but your information informed me as to what was supposed to be happening, and I was able to troubleshoot from there. The problem was that the black lever wasn't getting pushed back far enough, thus the arm you pointed out wasn't connecting with the cog.

The main problem with the camera is still the automatic shutter speed selection. When the orange light is displayed, instead of choosing a slow shutter speed, the camera seems to go into 'B' mode. Is this symptomatic of a POD problem?

I'd be grateful if you've any advice, but am hesitant to delve any further into the mechanics/electronics of the camera as I'm not very experienced. It works fine manually, and I wouldn't want to disturb anything else.
