Help needed - mold on my slides

Hi everyone,

Last night I opened the closet where i keep my slides and to my horror i noticed that they are covered in mold. I haven't been through those drawers for the last couple of years (at least).

How can i clean them without destroying them? Any ideas/suggestion please?

I would make a test on one of them with a mix of chlorine and water applied with a soft brush and rinse them with water and dry it using a hair drier at low temperature.

I'm not sure how to clean them, but to prevent further damage, if I were you, I would research about putting your slides in the sun to let its UV light kill the mould and stop further growth. I'd also get one of those dessicant-dehumidifier things and put it in your cupboard to reduce humidity to levels that will prevent further mould growth.

Slides do not take kindly to sunlight. It might stop the fungus but it will just as well wipe the slide. Certainly Kodachrome where the yellow dye is only rated for 1h projection time.

I'll follow this thread with interest as I have also a lot slides in this condition. We found a lot of old slides that my dad took in the '60-'70s and most of them have some mold on them. (and a load of dust)

Good point, I didn't realise kodachrome was that sensitive to UV!
