Hi all!
I own two Contax G2-bodies and also a Biogon 2,8/21.
On one body the 21 works perfect, on the other body no function! No autofocus, no manual focus, shutter doesn't fire, nothing :-((
There are no problems with other lenses, only this one has a malfunction on one of my bodies.
Has anyone an idea, ev. to clean contacts, but with which fluid?
thanks and regards

I'd try a microfiber cloth on the contacts first...

Clean the contacts carefully with microfibre cloth. I wouldn't use any solution to start. I believe the cleaning should work.
Also, be careful of how you mount the lens. I realize you know how to use the camera, but I've had a couple instances where I thought the 21 was mounted properly but it wasn't.

Does the G2 not need to be modified, or is that only for G1 bodies? Supposedly there's a blue sticker in the battery compartment of those modified. I have a feeling it's only for G1s though...
as you mentioned, no modification needed on the G2;
only G1 need this for the 2,8/21 and 2/35 lenses

The first time I mounted the 21 on my G2 I had this problem. (while it was fine on my G1). Wiped the contacts w/ a microfiber cloth, made sure everything was lining up right, and it works fine now, haven't had a problem since that first time 5 years ago.

I don't want to intrude on this thread, but I just "won" the 21mm biogon with finder on E*ay last night, and now am suffering from delayed sticker shock. From those of you with this lens, how good is it, especially compared to the awesome 45mm? Any tips for its use? Thanks....John.

Enjoy. Do not shock at the price you paid, it was too little anyway compared to the quality it can render.
Now 21 mm may not be your forte, so if you cannot manage super wide, just sell it and someone else will enjoy ...

great sharpness center and edges even wide open, great details, great colors;
I would say the greatest lenses of the G-system are 21, 45 and 90

How much did you pay? For what these usually sell for they are a steal. Hook it up and start shooting and that sticker shock will be gone as soon as you get your first roll back.

Paddy, I paid $510 plus shipping. There were only two bidders, and I figured it wouldn't get a lot of attention ending on Memorial Day. These used to sell for a lot more, but now I realize there have been an awful lot of them on Evay recently, as well as the super rare and expensive 16mm. It's just a lot of money for me, no matter how good the lens; I jumped on a perceived good deal. Glad to hear it's so well thought of.

I paid $600 plus shipping for mine (lens, finder, case, all mint). Worth every penny. I would say that about 80% of my G2 photographs over the past year have been made with the 21mm.

now my G2-contacts and also contacts on the lens are cleaned - but no difference;
when I put it on, nothing happens, no shutter firing, no autofocus, no manual focus
I tried my other lenses - 35, 45 and 90 work perfect.
Only my 28 also have this problem with one little difference: no autofocus, BUT manual focus works in this way - mount the lens, no function; dismount for only 1 or 2mm and fix it again - manual focus works
both lenses work perfect on my other G2!!!
any idea now? seems I need service

As a last resort i would try to "reset" the G2 by putting the batteries in an out
