Help on wobbly Canon 35 f/2 LTM; disassembly instructions needed

Thank you! I'm always thinking about an upgrade, but really I have no complaints. An amazing lens given its age.

I kept mine as an alternative to the Zeiss Biogon ZM 35 f2. The Canon is gentler in character with a lovely low contrast wide open. Plus its tiny which the Biogon certainly isn't

Interesting you say that; hypothetically I'm saving for the Zeiss 35/2.8. Which is smaller I think but certainly not gentle from what I can see. I shoot all B&W though and kind of like sharp/punchy images.

Also, I borrowed a friend's CV 21/4 for a few weeks and have to say it was nice using a lens made this century. Just a bit smoother all around.

I have it's predecessor the f3.5 Serenar or maybe another generation back. Mine has been prone to hazing and I have to clean it before each use in 8 minutes (not really but close). It is a very well built lens as I'm sure the OP knows. And even with Canon's early dive into Canons LTM lenses it is really a good lens (except for the hazing problem).

This is wide open, and you will see some vignetting here but that was the lighting:

Youxin Ye does fantastic work with LTM lenses. His charges between 90 and 100. It's probably worth sending to him if you can't fix it yourself.

+1. My Canon 50/1.8 had some wobble in the front. Youxin fixed it and also cleaned the lens. It’s back in form now.

I have a Canon 35mm f2, and in the past I owned a Zeiss ZM 35mm f2.8 C-Biogon. The lenses were about equal in sharpness but the Zeiss lens was very contrasty and in the end I did not like the tonality I got from it. Get your Canon repaired, it is worth spending $100 on. A new lens will cost you far more for little real return.

Yes, the Canon 35/2.0 is a brilliant lens and worth repairing.

Resurrecting this thread, though I know it's been discussed in others.

My 35/2 has a wobble to the focus ring and a general looseness to the body, but the aperture clicks are sturdy.

I tightened down all the screws I could find and opened the lens to my comfort level (rear retainer and front element) but couldn't find anything else that looks adjustable.

Anything else I should try myself, or any shop/repairperson you recommend for this lens?

Wrestling with justifying the repair. If it's $100+ for a CLA am I better upgrading to a more modern lens? I love the little Canon, but would you recommend selling to upgrade to a Voigtlander/Zeiss?

Happy Sunday!

A simple CLA should run about $40-60 - from honest repair techs.

Do you have someone who does good work at such rates, David?
Thanks.

I'd be interested too. In getting this lens repaired I got 5-6 estimates and only ProCamera was under $100. I think it was $85 + shipping. They did offer to just repair the wobble for maybe $60+pp but I opted for the full CLA.

Like John said above, hard to complain about this lens. I'm always happy with the results.
