I just received my Canonet Q17 GIII which I purchased on ebay (bad move maybe). Im not sure if I am just stupid or this camera is broken. I was told by the seller that it was in excellent working condition. I wanted to check the lens for mould so I opened the back and set the shutter ring to B cocked the lever and the shutter doesnt fire, is this normal? I have also tried every possible configuration of apertures and shutter speeds, cocking film door open/closed, timer on and off and the shutter still does not fire. Do you need to have film loaded or is this camera a paper weight. Really appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

A sticky shutter on a GIII is quite common. Do some searches here and you will find all kinds of tales and fixes for it.

LOL! (sorry) I would almost say that a sticky shutter on a GIII sold on Ebay as "excellent working order" is expected!

Yeah, you can try for a refund, or try fixing it. I got my baptism by fire in camera repair doing just that a few years ago!
