HELP! Quick decision on telephoto lens for M240

For less the price of a Leica APO 135 you could buy a new Canon Rebel (dont remember the number) thats presumably one of the smallest dslr on the market and a stabilized ef 70-300. Very flexible kit and the same weight or maybe less than an M240 with apo 135. Added benefits are IS and AF, handy on long lenses and by sure more precise and speedy focusing. Id use the M for wa and near normal focal length. Or consider buying the accessory EVF and use any brand long long tele, as I presume it should overcome the rear LCD limitations under the inclement African sun

I went on safari (game drive) for several days in Sabi. I had my M8 and an old 50mm Summilux and a 28mm! I found that we got close enough for this to be a perfectly acceptable lens combination!

My question is - what kind of game drive is it? In Kruger National for example - its up to you to do the driving - and you cannot leave the main roads. On the higher end game drives - in the privately owned Sabi which adjoins Kruger however, the guides will take you almost anywhere. We were within metres of lions, elephants you name it. So it will help us to know what kind drive you'll be on

You do not want to be too close to a lion anyway. Some photographer got too close once and got eaten alive in front of his wife and kids. Respect your subject, and remember that it doesn't take a lot of effort for some animals to cross a few meters in distance.

If you stay within the vehicle you can get as close as you want. Lions do not associate vehicles with food.
