Help! R-D1 memory card problem

I have been shooting with a 2 gig card in the R-D1 and am able to view the 80 photos on the camera. However when I take the card out and put it in a card reader or the Epson P-2000 I can't get them. I have tried both Mac's and PC's and several card readers. The Mac wants to initialize the disk the PC and P-2000 says there is nothing on it.

2 gigs is a big card; I believe our digital cameras can't use one that big. It's very possible that only some card readers will handle it... Well, I went to Mac Connection online store and the first 8 card readers in the list mentioned no limits on the size of the card. But the 9th one, from TrendNet, did: Compatibility Notes Cards Supported:
Compact Flash: 8MB and up
Microdrive: 340MB and up
SmartMedia: 8MB ~ 128MB
Memory Stick: 8MB ~ 256MB
Secure Digital: 16MB ~ 512MB
MultiMediaCard: 8MB ~ 128MB

The 15th one listed compatible cards but only mentioned size limits of 1Gb on CF and microdrives.

So, that might be something to look into... Hope this will be helpful. 🙂

I would think if the camera can read it the reader should. But I tried several readers too and no luck.Perhaps I never formatted it. But if so why do I see the photos on the camera? Any other ideas?

Have you tried PhotoRescue or any other photo recovery program? I think there is freeware out there. FWIW I used a 2gb ADATA 150x card in my 45xx RD-1 (formatted in camera first) with no problems. Shooting JPEGs.

You might also want to check the folder settings. Make sure you can read system files and hidden folders. This should not affect what you are trying to do, but it wouldn't hurt. Also, if the camera can read the pics, do you have another camera that takes SD cards that can read them? You may be shooting only in RAW so this wouldn't really work. If you are shooting in RAW, have you tried looking at them with the Epson Raw converter?

I tried one photo rescue program but it just looks for jpegs and other common file types. I shot in RAW so they are ERW files.

The problem is the P-2000 reader not the camera, you need to upgrade the firmware on the P-2000 to the latest version [02.51] which you can downolad at www.epson.com along with installation instructions.
It'll then work with 2 Gb cards.................. 😉
