I need help big time..I have an Epson R-D1 that I love with a passion that I have never felt with any of my other cameras.. It is 2 years old and now out of warrenty. It is suffering from shutter failure and nothing I do helps. So- contacted Epson and they said since it is out of warrenty they could do nothing- but did give me the names of two repair people. Now my problem is- do I try to use an unknown out of my geographic area or try to find another service center with a track record fixing this..I have noticed many members have had this problem- it is definitely mechanical according to Epson.
Someone out there that can help!!!PLEASE????
I have the 28,35 and 50mm Leica lenses. It is not my only digital camera nor am I new to rangefinders. I have used my 2 Mamiya 6mf's for years but wanted to go digital.
I have a Leica D-Lux2 and also a Nikon D70 that I converted to Infrared beside my film cameras.
Edie in trouble.

I had intermittent shutter failure and had it repaired out of warranty by Epson Hong Kong. The cause of the failure was found to be a sticky release lever, and since no changing of parts was invloved, a flat charge of HK$400 (US$50) was charged. I am not sure whether it will repair R-D1 that was purchased outside Hong Kong, but you can email their customer service personnel. Their website is www.epson.com.hk.

I'm amazed that Epson will not fix their own camera. So what if it's out of warranty, it's THEIR camera, charge money for the repair but fix it. I'd dearly like to own one of these, but it's not likely considering they are discontinued and the repairs are such a pain in the....

Best tel # to call for R-D1 support?

Best tel # to call for R-D1 support?

I have the same problem, have now been on hold with Epson R-D1 support for 25 minutes (tel 562- 276-4315.)

Does anyone know a better number to call? The tel # posted on the UK user's blog site mentioned elsewhere on this forum no longer works (disconnected).

I know I can send the R-D1 to Steve in CA but am hoping to pay less than $300 to get this fixed.

What about contacting Andrea Zoeckler (Director, Service and Support Operations) at Epson USA. She writes on the company's web site that "Our mission is to "treat and support our customers as you expect to be treated and supported". The web page is (here) . Her contact email is listed on the web page. All of us USA RD1 owners need to contact this lady at let our feelings be known.

Please let us know what Epson's reponse is to your problem.

Take care,
Michael

I've used Authorized Camera Repair near Philly for my Nikon gear. Excellent work from a very nice guy. He seems to deal with many kinds of cameras. Fixed a shutter I think for me?

Thanks-I sent my R-D1 to Steve and he repaired it-no parts eetc and in less than a week also- VERY responsible...thanks for the tip. Photolady1

I had the same problem with Epson- they sent me to two stores in eastern Mass. who did not know how to fix it. So off it went to Steve's Camera in LA and they were great even though it cost $300.Good Luck
