Help! I 'm trying to mount this lens on my Leica M-E. I bought a Voigtlander 35/135 (accidently) and it doesn't seem to focus correctly. From what I've read online, it should work, but with the wrong framelines?

Does anyone know if this lens requires a Type I as indicated by camera quest?

Thanks,
Chris

You need an adapter for the 50mm focal length to get the correct frames.
There is a 28mm/50mm adapter that I use.

I do think it should focus correctly, but i'm unknowing on the 50mm f1.2, could it possibly need adjustment to work with digital Leica since focal plane distance is different?

It should work on the digital M directly. With an M adapter, it is like any M lens.

The CV adapter should be OK. The cheaper adapter might mess up the focal plane distance. My guess is your lens needs to be calibrated.

I have not read before about the need to adjust a Canon 50/1.2 for an M film camera. Is the digital M more sensitive to such issues?

Have you used the Canon 50mm f/1.2 much before purchasing the new Leica? If it focused properly on film, it should be reasonably close on digital. Mine was spot on when used on my M8 and later on my M9. As far as ajustment, there is none provided for. There is only a brass washer in the lens that can be built up with copper tape if you are back-focusing. If you are front-focusing then you may have to find or fabricate a slimmer washer.
It's quite easy to work on if one is mechanically inclined and has taken apart a few lenses before. This is one of the simplest. If not, you could have it sent out for adjustment against a digital body but if that doesn't match your body then the work will be for nothing.
Usually these have always worked perfectly and they have almost no discernible focus shift.
Good luck with the new adapter, hopefully you find one that gives you the proper registration and focus.

Thanks everyone

Who do I send it to? Anyone know a good place in Boston or NY?

If you're in NYC, Nippon Photo Clinic Service is great. They serviced my canon 50/1.2. But before you do that, have you tried another adapter? I actually had to buy two before I got a good one. Though both were cheapo adapters. First one from eBay, the 2nd a Bowen adapter, which worked perfectly. I've used my 50/1.2 on 3 different cameras (M6 M8 and XPro1) with no problems whatsoever.

Thanks Enero.

Yes, I plan on buying one from CameraQuest.
I'm concerned that the adaptor that I'm using is a Voigtlander, ant its not working.

Shot the 1.2 LTM with appropriate adapter on M8/M6/MP interchangably, not problem,
Get the CV version for solving the issue .

I suggest you buy a Leitz 50mm LTM-M adapter and not worry about it again. All of my Leitz adapters work perfectly with all of my LTM lenses from 28mm to 135mm including a 50mm/1.4 and 85mm/2.0.

Doesnt matter what brand it is, as long as it works. Just go to your local camera shop and try out ones that they have on hand. Just make sure it's a 50/75. Even if you hold out for a name brand adapter, at least that way you'll know, once and for all, if its the adapter or the lens thats causing the problem.

You are blessed if you have a local camera shop with LTM-M adapters in stock. Here in Houston, the second/third largest city in the USA, there is only one shop that MIGHT have an LTM-M adapter on hand. Maybe.

I don't remember the lens all that well, but I don't believe it has an infinity lock. As clearly stated on the CameraQuest page, lenses without an infinity lock will work fine with either type of adapter. In fact, lenses with infinity locks that are not located at the very rear of the barrel with also work with either adapter type.

BTW, you haven't mentioned so I throw this out: Do you have any other lenses and if so have you tried them? If you have only tried this one lens with this one adapter you can't rule out a misadjusted camera body. You should confirm that the body focuses correctly with another lens, or this lens with another adapter, before you consider sending either in for service and adjustment.

That sucks, but this person asked a about Boston and NYC in particular, both cities have tons of camera shops that would carry these adapters (adorama, b&h, bronfields, hunts, ritz, etc.). I'm just going by what I know. It's what I did when the Internet failed me ;)

if you're in NYC, just stop by Adorama....i'm sure they have adapters. I just ordered an original Leitz 28-50mm adapter (LTM to M-Mount) today on ebay for about $50. It will be used with my latest purchase: a 50mm F1.8 Super Rokker! Am excited.

Hey Guys,

1. I bought the last 50mm adaptor from Adorama, and they sent me a 35/135 version. And are out of stock. B&H is out of stock.

2. I'm not a fan of Bromfield's. I'll leave it at that. Ritz is closed. Hunts does not carry this kind of thing, I'm a regular there.

3. Yep, the body worked great with a ZM 50 f/2 =)
