Help with a Canon FTb

Hi! Im having an odd behavior in my old FTb, the camera works in all the velocities, and the bulb stay open if there is no film in the camera, but when loaded the camera whit one i stop working or work erratic. Sometimes jams the wind lever too until i move the speed selection wheel to another velocity.
Anyone have an idea why it can be? i made some repairs by the guides from the old forum, but thius odd problem doesnt appear anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

See if the rubber pads on the take-up spool of the Quick Load system are dry and hard and not gripping the film leader.

The loose film leader could be interfering with the shutter curtains. A bit of lighter fluid on the rubber pads of that QL system can sometimes make them supple again to grip the film leader.

Mine was quirky on wind lever until I opened bottom plate and found one part which came off.

Looking at your video tells me that your camera needs a CLA.

Your shutter speeds are erratic and sometimes the shutter curtains do not close, as I assume you are not changing the shutter setting to B when I viewed your video.

As an addendum check to see if the foam bumper where the mirror slaps against at has not deteriorated and the mirror gets stuck in the up position ( but that still would not cause the shutter to stay open if the shutter dial is not set on "B".. as the mirror in the up position triggers the shutter to fire) .


Also make sure the shutter release collar is set to A and not in between A and L

The Speed dial is set in B, what i want to show in the video is how when i put my fingers in the SProcket the B stop working. The Foam bumper was replaced with a piece of rubber i beleave.

Im gonna check the shutter release collar when i get home

That is a sign that something is internally loose in the camera or it has excessive wear on rotating surfaces or bearings.

The pawl that holds the 2nd shutter curtain when the shutter dial is set on B should not be made to move away and release the 2nd closing shutter curtain by pressing on the sprocket shaft.

Try exercising the film rewind button on the bottom base plate to see if it makes a difference in the stability of that sprocket shaft...I highly doubt it but you never know.
